Oct. 30, 2025 - BC Green MLA Valeriote on supporting local news and BuyBC advertising
Today MLA @jervaler.bsky.social asked the Premier to support local news, which is essential to a healthy society.
Right now, the BC Gov spends the vast majority of its advertising budget with American tech giants like Meta and Google. What if they BuyBC instead?

B.C. Greens call for a return to vacancy control with new legislation : AM 1150
AM 1150 is Kelowna’s source for news, talk, and sports — delivering breaking news, local stories, and live radio coverage.
“Our housing system is designed to squeeze renters for all that they’re worth, while lining the pockets of luxury developers and big landlords,” Lowan said.
A Statistics Canada study based on data from 2020 found nearly a quarter of residential property owners in B.C. were investors.

B.C. Greens look to bring back vacancy control, blocking ‘predatory landlords’ - Surrey Now-Leader
A private members’ bill seeks to bring back a tool that ties rents to units rather than to tenants
And another!
"Botterell noted that the NDP has supported comprehensive rent control by implementing vacancy control in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and Christine Boyle, minister of housing for B.C., backed it as a city councillor."

'No limits': B.C. Green Party looks to bring back rent control tool | Urbanized
B.C. does not currently have any form of rent control, and a new bill from the BC Green Party looks to change that.
"Vacancy control was dropped by the government decades ago, but the topic has been discussed on social media in recent years in response to rising rent rates."
More great coverage on our bill to protect renters!

Right now, there are no limits on how much landlords can raise rent between tenancies — rent increases are only regulated within existing tenancies. If we want affordable housing fast, we need to look at the housing we already have. This bill will change that equation

This legislation is not intended to target homeowners—it’s designed to protect renters and strengthen the overall rental market by preventing unnecessary rate hikes.

The leadership of the snpink’tn Indian Band, the city & local partners shows that communities thrive when compassion guides collaboration. Through CARGA we helped advance these solutions and we'll keep working to ensure every British Columbian has the same access to housing, health care and dignity.

The new homes on Drake Road are an important step forward for our unhoused residents on Salt Spring Island and for those seeking affordable housing.
MLA Adam Olsen spent years advocating for this project, and I continued that work after he retired. We're excited it's finally complete!

At its core, the North Coast Transmission Line is a public subsidy for resource extraction, not a long-term investment in BC’s clean energy future.

…it is being used as a disguise for this government to gut the B.C. Utilities Commission’s established role of a non-partisan body making independent, technically robust decisions in the public interest.

This legislative agenda is largely non-controversial. There are some important adjustments to legislation on intimate images, sexual violence, and payments for contractors, but overall, the lack of vision leaves a vacuum for other political distractions.

Right now, we need to focus on fairness and affordability—on pocketbook issues and what’s happening at the kitchen table. There are some good pieces of legislation in here, but nothing that addresses the huge range of affordability challenges people are facing in this province.
