In the top left, bold yellow text reads, "Bill 60 Makes the Silent Crisis of Accessible Rental Housing Even Worse." There is a logo to the right, featuring "DJNO" in yellow and "in metroland" in white, accompanied by a stylized sun graphic. Below, there is a dark translucent box containing text: "Disabled tenants have to weigh their options every day they leave their home. They wonder, “Will I be able to get to my medical appointment if the elevator in my building goes down?” Elevator failure and lack of repair regularly trap older adults and tenants with disabilities at home, from Toronto to Sudbury, for weeks at a time..." read the full article for the rest of the quote, too long for alt. text in these apps!
Across the Metroland papers today, Brad writes about the silent crisis in housing: accessibility for disabled renters. And, friends, Bill 60's speeding up of evictions and limits on those owing arrears will only make things worse. Link in bio or tr.ee/b-M2MEhM8O

Image of a small flyer that says, “CAUTION PUBLIC HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS Since 2023 our landlord (GWLRA) has been renting out our private pool to a for-profit swim school open to public. This pool is not rated for public use. After a review by Toronto Public Health, GWLRA'S contract with the swim school will end April 2025. We want to hear from you! Complete this form [QR code linking to form blocked out in photo by an angry-face emoji] 👉How you feel about unsafe swimming conditions since 2023 👉Evidence of humidity, mould, rust, and chemical damage 👉Frequent pool closures due to maintenance 👉Pool maintenance as justification for 6%+ annual rent increases”
GWLRA made $$ by renting our pool to a for-profit swim franchise for almost 2 yrs, opening it to the general public. Tenants’ concerns about pool maintenance were dismissed.
By March 2025, TPH reminded GWLRA that our pool is a “Class B” pool that does *NOT* meet standards for general public use.
It’s *not* immigrants.
It’s *not* lack of supply.
It’s $$$ firms that are making housing unaffordable.
“Census data shows that the supply of housing has been greater than population growth almost every year since 2010, yet housing price increases consistently outstrip inflation every year.”
The rapid evaporation of affordable housing has created a dire situation for working Canadians. Since financialized firms entered the housing market average home prices have risen 318%. Two-thirds of tenants are now being charged unaffordable rents.

Financialized landlords…
(like GWL Realty Advisors, Dream Ultd, Starlight, Minto, Brookfield, etc)
…should NOT be accessing supports when they are literally pricing people out of their homes.

@bhutilakarpoche.bsky.social has been a steadfast ally from Day 1. When other politicians turned a blind eye to price fixing and predatory landlords, Bhutila stood up for tenants. That's what true leadership looks like!

Plan = give the industry more money by starving Cities for revenue from one of the richest groups in Canada (property developers).
Savings = $0. Thats because housing prices aren't a function of cost, they're a function of what the market will bare. 1/2
