They say I’m radical for supporting harm reduction.
Saving lives isn’t radical.
Letting people die is!
Angus: It’s like having to negotiate with Al Capone in his syphilitic period. You want to shut down the bridge? Go ahead. Every day, 1,500 nurses from Canada go to help keep Detroit’s health care system going. I personally think those nurses should be working in Canada.

Real care is voluntary meaning available harm reduction options, accessible treatment, housing and long-term supports.
Punishment dressed as care is not that and never has been.
We need evidence-based compassion, not coercion.
Great analysis in this episode about the UCP misrepresenting data around ambulance calls for drug poisoning (citing @drugdatadecoded.ca)
and the false claims about crime near consumption sites.
At 13 min, better yet listen to the whole episode of #ABpoli @thebreakdownab.bsky.social!

A year ago, the Alberta government said it was building 2 drug jails for detainment and forced withdrawal of people who use drugs, in Calgary and Edmonton.
Turns out another was planned for Grande Prairie.
Any others? Seems likely.

Graphic with the headline “Naloxone isn’t just for people who use substances.” It lists everyday scenarios where naloxone can save lives, alongside photos: an older woman holding pill bottles, a baby with a pill, a dog sniffing the ground outdoors, and a parent hugging a child. The message emphasizes that unexpected overdoses can happen in ordinary homes and that having naloxone ready saves lives. Ends with “Every life is worth saving” and the Steps of Hope logo.
This image says it clearly and compassionately. Naloxone isn’t about labels .. it’s about being prepared. Accidents happen to seniors, kids, pets, and families every day. Having naloxone means you care enough to be ready. It saves lives. Every life matters 💜 #naloxonesavelives

You can flood streets with cops and still have suffering everywhere.
Or you can fund housing, mental health care, and addiction treatment,
and actually make people safe.
One is control.
The other is solutions!

This situation isn’t unique to BC. The same can be said for Alberta, where significant public investment has gone into the private treatment industry without any publicly reported outcomes. Overdose deaths in Edmonton continue to exceed the provincial average, and ambulance calls are at record highs
