I know this isn’t new for LE, but this reminds me of when Airbnb investigated if they were worsening the housing crisis and found that short-term rentals were not a major factor. So glad they did such a meaningful investigation!!!

Easy way to tell if Ford is lying about crimeβ€” is he talking about crime?

If yes β€”> yes.

If no β€”> also yes but still working on prepping a really good lie for later.

Not just hating JT, we can’t forget the hollow slogans, too! Seriously though, if anyone else had this bad of a track record in their job, they’d be fired long ago.

That argument (the leftist indoctrination via higher education) always tickles me. It's such an... admission that I can't believe their lack of hesitance to share it.

Why more people aren’t scared of this precedent, idk (other than drugs bad, destroy at all costs). Obviously this is horrific on so many levels AND will only lead to a more potent/toxic drug supply. But this was never really about the drugs, was it? Feels like it’s more about WHO is in these boats.

This was a terrific readβ€” thank you for sharing. RE: the end bit… while political sentiment against folks like us isn’t new, we are seeing a rise in populist platforms (PP is a good example, but I saw it in an NL lib recently also) guiding these β€œsolutions” and views that lack any nuance whatsoever.

Tucking this in my back pocket for the next time someone pushes back when I say that TWOD is literally just a workaround to make people of certain ethnicities illegal. It’s not the drugs they were going for, it was the people. Pearl-clutching more-so than paternalism (although they do coexist here)

Just gave a brief presentation on climate denial for a grad health misinformation course. One of the readings I had to cover had a list of quotes from US congressmen, many of which can be summarized as β€œtrust me bro”

They won’t care until it’s barrelling towards their homeβ€” even that is optimistic.

removing them from our communities, seemingly by any) *any* means necessary. From the stuff I read online, far too many people have become comfortable with execution simply for being in the "wrong" population and/or committing the most minor infraction.

While this was written in the context of the persecution of unhoused folks, we hear the same rhetoric applied to PUD. They'll say, "they don't go into the treatment programs we paid for, advocate for forced treatment (despite us knowing that doesn't work) and, when all else fails (1/2)

I know this isn't the point of your post but I don't understand why our part of the world is so in love with enormous trucks that aren't really more functional than the ones you see elsewhere. I often struggle to look past them for oncoming traffic when they park at the end of a parking lot rows.

I'm officially one month away from starting my PhD in Medicine (specifically Population Health and Applied Health Science) to finally dig deeper into substance use research. Any advice for a nervous doctoral student heading into a med school?

This whole Trump dealing with fentanyl through blaming random shit (and Canada) would be hilarious if it wasn't so dangerous to the folks he'll go after. Yknow, just makes me so content that the war on drugs has been suuuuuuch a success.

As dubya said back in the day, "Mission accomplished"

Universal until it breaks the mold and becomes inconvenient. You paying taxes all your life (rightfully so) so the system can take of you and your family... just to leave you high and dry when the worst possible scenario comes your way. Shameful. I couldn't sleep at night if I were on that committee

Wednesday's stigma webinar was a success! Over 230 people attended throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond! I saw more than a few Maritimers present.

Anyone interested in some handouts or slides? I'll post the recording here as well once it becomes available.

Also I love how I literally just read you say this was a blanket and yet I still called it a towel. Night shifts are very good for my brain.

San Francisco has spent the last 3 years undoing any evidence-based drug policy in order to appease a very vocal group of uneducated but rich, fascist, right-wing losers (Sacks, Tan, Tandler, Shellenberger, etc). As everyone with understanding of this topic warned, San Franciscans are dying bc of it

In all seriousness, that's exactly what I tell clients at my treatment job. It's a good first step in challenging that internalized stigma and recognizing that we use them because they work. Professionals have no excuse to feign ignorance re: why people use drugs with the info available to us
