Last week we travelled up to sunny Swindon to meet with Mongoose Publishing. We did videos, met the crew, and had a good peek behind the scenes of one of the UK's biggest TTRPG publishers.

An angry American man was overcome with rage when we referred to his purchase from our (UK) store as an 'international' order. We have no idea why. But he is very upset.

Dragonmeet was pretty awesome. We sold out of Split the Hoard (our first card game!)--easily our best Dragonmeet ever. Dunno if that was the new location in the ExCeL or just luck, but we're not complaining!

Also, Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, doesn't speak for Amazon. Just because Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, can't figure out how to write a new Bond film doesn't mean that Steven Knight, the actual writer of the new Bond film can't.

As a news site publisher, I don't think that will work. That still leaves me with no incentive to write news articles. Nobody is reading or responding to my words. At that point I'm just admin staff for OpenAI working behind the scenes to feed in data.

Yep it’s a real problem. AI scrapes the websites and give you the info directly. The websites get no traffic. The websites go away. AI has nothing to scrape to answer your questions.

It’s just the old “I’ve been playing this game for 40 years, why is the marketing aimed at teenagers and not boomers?” nonsense. Missing the fact that they started playing… when they were teenagers. Things like D&D have always been marketed at kids, and that’s just fine.

50-year old men complaining that games marketed at them when they were kids are still marketed at kids just sound like giant babies. Grow up. Jeez.

Yep, they’re “improving” the fees!

Gym emails me to say they are “improving my experience”. Guess what the “improvement” is?

Close call. We just paid tariffs for our latest shipment to arrive in the US this week. Squeaked in just before they rocketted up again…

Yeah, we went from a corridor to a hotel conference room to a hotel ballroom to the (current) Union Station venue. That first year was kinda crazy, a slapdash affair organised by a couple of fans. I had piles of books in my living room which I had to mail out to judges around the world.

We did that in 2001 because we conceived of them as a fan award not an industry award. It was *tiny*. I’m not involved with them now so I can’t speak to the current setup.

I would say that the goal of the ENnies is probably different to what it was in 2001, as is the size and scope of the TTRPG industry (the first ceremony was held in a corridor!) And along with that, the ENnies’ responsibilities have changed.

I really like the cloth maps that Free League makes for their games… and now so do the walls on our upstairs landing!
