12.02.2026 18:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thankfully we still have the media to serve that essential role of providing contex-
-sorry have just been informed the mediaβs role is entirely to say which side is manipulating voters most effectively and applauding them for it, never mind
It would be nice if some part of the political process was about acknowledging the trade-offs involved in different approaches.
Just watching nz question time replay. Govt ministers saying the last government wrecked the country and they are fixing it. What a useless dead-end for democracy.
Oof!!
12.02.2026 09:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0!! I was never brave enough to do that but you can bet I pored over those Mile High ads. I relied on the extensive comic boxes at every second hand bookshop (ah those were the days), plus the Wellington comic shop VMS of course.

12.02.2026 02:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also, of course, the story of US comics is almost entirely about a single city. Doskvol gets to be the New York of this parallel comics industry.

Real world: paper production run by the mob. Magazine distro run by the mob. Periodical syndicates below the majors are built on sensational/pornographic content, inevitably have mob interests. Just the infrastructure around comics is full of crime, before you even start fictionalising!
Cover of "Men of tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters and the birth of the comic book" by Gerard Jones, showing a panel of comic art with many flying figures.
Just finished Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters, and the Birth of the Comic Book by Gerard Jones. Full of inspiration. Not a pretty business, by any stretch.
Comics will break your heart, kid, as the King said.
hey it's me! Excited to dig into Doskvol's comics scene. Comics history in the real world is a mess of organized crime and huge personalities in desperate situations, ripe for Bladesification.
One thing I haven't answered for myself yet - are the comics in Doskvol '68 dominated by superheroes? π€

11.02.2026 22:23 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Gutting. The Beek was a dude. Endlessly ready to poke fun at himself, huge supporter of live theatre, and gifted us some of the best GIFs humanity will ever see. Vale.
11.02.2026 22:15 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0With Valentines day coming up, what 2 player ttrpgs do you recommend (your own if you like!)
Iβm going to recommend my game Love & Barbed Wire - letter writing between lovers against the backdrop of WW1.
How about you?

Tell Me More, Tell Me More! is out now for all your Valentine's gaming needs.

So the final version has the players tell the story to each other. Formally it's a bit weird, because there's no real life context that directly maps to the interaction in play, but in play it just plain works. You and the other player ask and answer questions and the story is there. It works! 4/
11.02.2026 19:24 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Because it turns out if you have two people playing the two sides of a romance story, they need to talk directly to each other. That pull was too strong, and no degree of clever (too clever by half in this case) design could redirect it.

Like in the song, the game tried to provoke little contradictions, where the two lovers described things differently. And the audience tried to dig into the things they were hiding.
And it worked - but it also didn't work! 2/
Tell Me More Tell Me More! is of course named after the best* song in Grease, in which a summer romance is recounted to eager audiences. In the early versions of the game, it was designed to be played in front of an audience, and the audience had a huge role in play. 1/
*the best, don't @ me
I would also accept the integration of the phrase "the Epstein class" into everyday speech.
Short. Accurate. To the point.
