A photograph taken at the end of a round of tabletop game Forest Shuffle, showing a section of my forest. The focus is on a Silver Fir card, which scores 2 points for every other card attached to it; while normally the maximum number of cards you can attach to a tree is four, one on each side, in this instance I have legally placed four hares horizontally (not uncommon, relatively doable, I've managed more before), a single Stinging Nettle on the underside (a card from an expansion pack) and a tower of seven butterflies on top (absolutely unhinged play). The tower of butterflies takes up two-thirds of the image and soars past a clump of several other trees, just to really drive it home.

Forest Shuffle is a fun game with lots of cute animals and an intricate ruleset that lets you do things to make everyone else at the table groan simultaneously. Highly recommended.

Well, I gave it a sporting chance, and while I'd say 22a was the best of the relevant bunch, my favourites were actually 2d, 18d and 26d, the latter being a particularly funny bit of surface work!

Quite a few felines today - I approve! 18a hasn't been mentioned here yet, but was categorically my pick of the bunch.

Gentler than anticipated (so good for my speedsolving!), but with all the wit I would expect. Props for having two very neat fifteen-letter entries, and 16d was particularly satisfying. Congrats!

A section of the Word Grid leaderboard as it stood ~10 minutes ago, showing me in 42nd place with a grid rarity of 0.058 and 7 unicorns, and the other Panthera, of sudoku and Japanese Sums fame, behind me in 45th place with a grid rarity of 0.065 and 5 unicorns.

Okay, I know pretty much everyone else here has given up on Word Grid by this point, but it's only now that I have finally achieved what I've been wanting to...

e.g. today I found one unicorn in a song I was listening to (subsequently stolen), another in a technical doc I had to read (still standing!), and somehow one that I've been able to keep all day is a (fairly?) common fish!

I think the lack of a time limit is a neat levelling factor, in that I'd be shit at this if I had to magic up the words on the spot, but being able to muse on the grid throughout the morning gives my subconscious chance to dredge some unicorns up, plus I can decide when I'm done with my effort.

Me: nah, I don't think I have room for another word game in my life
