So the capuchin monks of Austria have a magazine and all I can say is that the cover is a real vibe. 70s hitchhikers? alt-folk darlings? baader-meinhof splinter group? Carthusian Swingers? Who can say what the vibe is, but it is one.

Really quick chart to show the rise of declared state of emergencies due to sever weather events. See the trend?

Also we are only 45 days into 2026!

Can we talk about climate change now?

"... Andrea Vance reports for The Post this morning that Fisheries Minister Shane Jones faces a domestic and international backlash after doubling the catch limits for fishing that destroys deep-sea corals, including from a fishing firm that donated $7,000 to Jones’ political campaign."

ACT leader David Seymour delivers 'State of the Nation' speech In Christchurch, the ACT leader pushed for a smaller state, rejected Treaty "division" and vowed to keep Labour, Greens and Te Pāti Māori from power.

Seymour’s state of the nation speech was actually quite impressive - because he managed to diagnose all the problems correctly, and then proposed policies that will make every single problem dramatically worse. That’s quite some skill

NZ has normalised inequality. As the cost of living rises, Govt has to expand into every corner of life so people don't starve and end up homeless.
We need to reduce inequality and rampant rentierism so that people and communities have the resources they need to look after themselves.

Perhaps worse is that they did believe them but that the abuse continued to be politically useful in a way that consequences would not be.

What if the biggest conspiracy is our government’s refusal to believe more than a 1000 women (and children) for many decades?

Cartoon depicts ACT MP and Minister of Internal Affairs Brooke Van Velden dressed as an ancient Egyptian queen/Pharaoh riding a giant gold block labelled β€˜ACT’s R.W. Agenda’.

She wields two whips to drive her slaves, dragging the block towards a pyramid peaked with gold labelled β€˜1%’.

Her slaves consist of National Party MPs, including PM Chris Luxon, Nicola Willis, Simeon Brown, and others.

Luxon: β€œNo wonder Brooke wasn’t keen on an anti-slavery bill.”

I'm sure that level of lack of policy oversight will have no negative ramifications in the slightest.

One thing I picked up on from talking to overseas infrastructure folk at the summit was the National Party's obsession with roading to the exclusion of other projects puts off international investors. One said they can't get anyone in government to listen to anything else... no matter how good.
