Middle School teachers: Read the entire thread although you probably know most of this already. (This is about teaching, not software design.)

This Mind Map feature looks great. I noticed that @rodrop.bsky.social was using NotebookLM Plus in the video. However, I checked my free NotebookLM account and the Mind Map option was also there. I wish Google would change the terms to allow use by students under 18 in Workspace for Ed. #AiEdu

I'm a fan of #FlintK12 but I had difficulty getting an activity to list only the sources I had preloaded into it when asked by a student to show the source list. Tip: List the sources in a public Google Doc and use the setup chat to have activity respond the the URL of Doc. #AiEdu

Four Priorities for Human-Centered AI in Schools Webinar β€” AI for Education How do schools adopt long-term, sustainable strategies in response to generative AI? In this session, we explored four essential priorities: augmentation over automation, literacy over policy, design ...

"If you are interested in building [AI] literacy in your community, you cannot only live in the land of the don'ts. You have to live in the land of the do's also. And you have to model some of those affirmative actions with students." - Eric Husdon - www.aiforeducation.io/four-priorit... #AiEdu

Which Federal Programs Are Under Scrutiny? The Budget Office Named 2,600 of Them. (Gift Article) The Trump administration ordered temporary freezes in funding for programs spanning virtually every part of the government. Here’s the full list.

For those concerned the freeze on federal funds will affect organizations you care about (or impact you personally), this list provides more information. My hope/guess is the @nytimes.com will continue to update it as they often do for something like this. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Inside of Instant Pot with pressure sensor switch and connector wires circled.

Sign of bad switch was that old one did not make a loud clicking sound. Take photo of old switch while connected so you attach wires back to proper connectors when you install new switch. Lower wire was almost too short but just fit. Connect wires before screwing down new switch to help that.

Is It Ethical for Teachers to Use A.I. to Grade Papers? Many schools do not allow students to use artificial intelligence to complete their assignments. Should teachers be held to the same standard?

If you are ready to have a conversation with students about their opinion on teachers using AI, the questions posed here might be a good start. The latter questions might elicit more nuanced answers with regard to resource generation. #EduSky #AiEdu www.nytimes.com/2024/11/13/l...

Interesting post by @ddmeyer.bsky.social, former math teacher who moved to EdTech a while back. He scrapped X-Twitter "wall of love" posts for an AI tool and classified them as teacher, consultant, or administrator. Definition of consultant is controversial.

Also, it might also help some students with learning differences. After that, students will conference face-to-face with the teacher to discuss the content of the statement with regards to the literature studies. We'll see how it goes when used in a week or two. #EduSky #AiinEd

The chatbot is setup to provide feedback on the general good practices for a statement (clarity, defendable argument, etc) NOT getting into content about the literature. The idea is that asking students to speak preciously instead of writing may encourage some different thinking.

I was working with a high school English teacher last week to create an AI chatbot (using FlintK12) to help students refine the first draft of a thesis statement for an essay. The kind of unique part is students dictate the statement using voice only.

For those who familiar with @flintk12.bsky.social, functionality for creation is similar with the addition of you picking the AI model. However, Flint has benefits of a TOS and privacy policy for minor student use and transparency of teacher seeing chat transcripts. #AIinEducation

Poe - Fast, Helpful AI Chat Poe lets you ask questions, get instant answers, and have back-and-forth conversations with AI. Gives access to GPT-4, gpt-3.5-turbo, Claude from Anthropic, and a variety of other bots.

Just completed GOA's Create your Own GPT course and learned about poe.com Poe allows you to create a customized chatbot (i.e. a GPT) that uses the AI model of your choice. Free access allows a finite number of interactions per day. TOS: parental permission if under 18 and no use under 13. #EduSky

Six AI Ideas We Need to Let Go Of And two we really need to hold on to

In this Sept 2024 article by Eric Hudson, he reminds us that we (schools) have agency over Generative AI in addition to ideas to let go of, "How we approach AI at school now will affect decisions [students] make about AI, now and in the future." substack.com/home/post/p-... #EduSky #AIinEducation

While I have some formal training in programming from years ago, it's not something I do regularly. I'm using Python for this, which I picked up ad-hoc on my own. So I determine the logic, but as I start typing code I let GC autocomplete suggest syntax instead of frequently looking it up elsewhere.

Students should learn basics of coding without an AI tool. However, it's eventually about solving a problem using the tools available. I don't know when that is for students and that's a question for discussion. However, I know I'm personally already at that point.
