I didn't mean twitter specifically! More "online environment which uses argument and polarization as attention mechanism." I agree there is a lot of similarity but also different styles of linguistic communication (overt/covert, group vs individual oriented etc) plausibly influence the effects?

I am thinking about Japan in this context. There a lot of communication happens in a nonlinguistic way and is pretty norm-based and contextual. Does this setting lend itself to more or less polarization through linguistic devices?

I wonder if some societies are more susceptible to others to twitter-style polarization and cuckoo aggressive brainwashed behavior. If so, what factors does it correlate with?
