Talking about #neuroscience to school kids at Lund University today! I love #popsci you always get some of the weirdest and most interesting questions

A grammar of movements: Acquisition and retrieval of biased probability distributions in a finite-state grammar-based serial reaction time task Motor sequence learning research has been primarily concerned with simple frequentist patterns, thereby neglecting the motor system's ability to handl…

New paper from us on probabilistic motor sequence learning! We show that learners in a serial reaction time task can generate new sequences that follow the structure of the finite-state grammar used in the acquisition phase.

Moreover, Ph.D. student Ditte Haagerup will present results from a longitudinal study from the same design on Wednesday (P4.21) and I'll be there. Mostly looking proud :)

30 innovative forskere har netop fået Lundbeckfondens Experiment 2024.
Med denne bevilling skabes der mulighed for nytænkende og eksperimenterende projekter, som kan udfordre traditionelle forestillinger inden for #neurovidenskab.

This hypothesis states that while a true representation of the probabilistic system (c.f. syntax in language) is stored in the left IFG (canonical Broca's area), the right IFG is responsible for being selectively sensitive for detecting the most probable stimulus (c.f. "no go" motor tasks)

I will use TMS to disrupt processing in the left and right IFG and then see if learning and retrieval of an acquired probabilistic system is affected in line with a left map/right max hypothesis.

The Inferior Frontal Gyrus’ Role in Learning the Probabilistic Structure of Sound

In the coming 2 years, the Lundbeck foundation has given me funds to explore the roles of left and right IFG in probabilistic auditory sequence learning in a motor context. I am beyond excited! lundbeckfonden.com/the-inferior...

It's not impossible to do, but there is a weird dissonance to it.

Teaching a course and then being the examiner is a bit weird to me. I just heard myself describe it as "I was a teacher trying to make sure that you learn as much as possible according to your conditions and experiences. Now I am an examiner robot, tasked to judge everyone objectively and fairly."

I am so excited for this. Sounds and the human perception of them is a research interest, the fascination of which I can now hope to spread to the students, and the challenge of making the maths and physics meaningful to students of a healthcare profession programme is a most wonderful one.

I am happy to announce that I am now lecturer on the audiology programme at @lund-university.bsky.social and will hold courses on acoustics and signal processing. So in the foreseeable future, I will split my time between Copenhagen and Lund.
