A Borges story about a guy who gets AI to summarize all the worldβs information for him, and then summarize the summary, until the AI has the whole world summarized into a single word. He sits alone at his desk, staring at the word, repeating it endlessly, certain he is experiencing everything

White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.
I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. βΊοΈπ³οΈβππ

11.10.2024 08:54 β π 2240 π 454 π¬ 21 π 9The one and only - nobody was daft enough to build a second - Vickers 161. The engine and propeller - I shit you not - are in the MIDDLE of the fuselage. No, really. Thin tubes connect the tail unit to the rest of the plane around the outside of the prop's travel, or at least I hope they do. To cap it all off an enormous COW gun is mounted at the front to fire upwards. Again, I'm not making this up - it's genuinely what it's called. Coventry Ordnance Works, you see. If you didn't know the actual reasoning behind it you'd assume it was the work of a violent lunatic. On reflection it still might be.
Engineering is always more fun when nobody yet knows what a stupid idea looks like
