Now's the time to call up Visa/MC to ask 'hey, how come you guys will pay for ChatGPT and Twitter subs but I can't buy certain games off of Steam?' Because I frankly would LOVE an answer to that...

"Cybourgeoisie" is the term for the tech-enamored well off, a vulgarity of class and time.

A cover illustrated by James Fenner. A woman with long red hair and padded clothing sits on the ground, petting the head of a smiling serpentine dragon. But the dragon has more than one head! On the left, a second giant dragon head emerges, frowning, looking at her while wearing a monocle. On the right, a third giant dragon head emerges, jaws wide, screaming in anger. The text is teal, contrasting sharply against the red and maroon of the creatures. The text on the cover reads "THE DRAGON HAS SOME COMPLAINTS. JOHN WISWELL, author of the Nebula and Locus Award-winning SOMEONE YOU CAN BUILD A NEST IN."

Unveiling the cover for THE DRAGON HAS SOME COMPLAINTS!

Garrodigh is a curmudgeonly three-headed dragon who pretends to be tame so he can eat for free at the local dragon-riding academy. Unfortunately, the rider he's assigned to is... a lot.

Coming Summer 2026 from DAW (US) and Arcadia (UK)!

Mitchell has spent the last decade preparing for the fall of civilization.

He never expects the world to actually end. It’s just a consulting job, after all.

Right?

When the end actually arrives, Mitchell is one of the lucky few chosen to join the trillionaire couple Connor and Joslyn Gillespie in their underground bunker as a security guard. It’s not paradise, but it’s survival β€” for him and his kid.

Vincent knows his dad has a weird job, but it pays for his college tuition free and clear, so he’s not complaining. And if there are other perks to having a dad working for the Gillespie’s, well. He’s not above taking advantage.

But then things start to change, and one day he wakes up with his dad telling him to pack a bag. The end is nigh, and they have a spot in one of the only safe places left.

Soon, both Mitchell and his son find themselves at the mercy of the sadistic Gillespie couple, who have plans for the future of humanity.

When Mitchell gets the call that his bosses are ready to seal their bunker, he has a decision to make. Try and survive on the deadly surface, or join them with his reluctant son.

I loved classic children's stories growing up β€” and still do! My favorites are A Little Princess, The Wizard of Oz (and the rest of the series), Heidi, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Just So Stories.

Time for my night time relaxation. Thanks, as always, to @stephenking.bsky.social for one of my favorites.

Started reading my first non-fiction book of 2025 today. Picked up Something That May Shock and Discredit You by Daniel Mallory Ortberg at work, and it's already a favorite.
