American Great Egrets develop showy plumes (known as aigrettes) that grow from their backs which were the bane of egrets in the 19th century when they were prized for ladies’ hats.

The Kingfisher caught a sanddab and flung the fish's head against the rock to knock it out, but then a seagull came along and tried to steal the fish.

Yikes!

Signs of glacial erosion on trail 505 in Washington Park on Fidalgo Island, WA.

This curved rock wall was shaped by glaciers about 15,000 years ago. You can even see striations on the surface of the wall made by rocks embedded in the glacial ice.
