This time, Detective Ransone was available so it was he who met Eddie outside the entrance of the building. “Special Agent Diaz.” When Athena called him by his title, it felt like a kind sort of teasing. When Lou Ransone said it, it sounded like he didn’t know if Eddie really deserved to carry it. His handshake was also assessing and overly firm. Eddie willed himself not to react. “Detective Ransone,” he said mildly, “glad you could join me this time. Athena filled you in on the interview with the ex-boyfriend?” “She did,” Ransone confirmed, “and I listened to the recording. There won’t be any way of not mentioning all of the details of the remains this time around. You know that, right?” Eddie didn’t particularly like being talked down to like a child but he resisted the urge to snap back. “Of course. I wasn’t planning on it.”
