Hoffentlich kommen die wieder zurück, sonst werden wir einen massiven Einbruch an wissenschaftlicher Qualität in nächster Zeit beobachten können.

Our colleagues Al Jazeera reporters Anas al-Sharif & Mohammed Qraiqeh, & cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal & Moamen Aliwa have been killed in a strike on a tent for journalists near Al Shifa hospital. They worked relentlessly through bombing & hunger to document this war. Please remember them

Dabei hat der Bundesrat doch so nett Trumps Allerwertesten geküsst ("These countries are calling us up, kissing my ass. They are dying to make a deal. 'Please, please, sir, make a deal. I'll do anything. I'll do anything, sir.'").

!! Europe, Summer 2025 !!
Just yesterday in Vienna, Austria, violinist Hagai Shaham, pianist Julia Gurvitch, and I were enjoying a quiet moment in a cozy little Italian restaurant — grabbing a bite before our concert. Naturally, we were speaking Hebrew among ourselves.
After taking our order, the waiter returned and suddenly asked what language we were speaking. I replied casually, "English and German."
"No, no," he insisted. "What were you just speaking now?" I answered, "Hebrew, of course."
He looked me directly in the eye and said, without hesitation:
"In that case, leave. I'm not serving you food."
Just like that.
The initial shock and humiliation were profound. But what struck us even more deeply was what came next — or rather, what didn't. The people around us were clearly startled, some offered sympathetic glances... and then, quietly, they went back to their dinners, their conversations, their wine — as though nothing had happened.
Welcome to Europe, 2025.
Still shaken, we stepped onto the stage that evening, hearts heavy, and sought refuge in the music we love. Performing Dvorak's Dumky Trio to a completely sold-out hall offered us a rare kind of healing — a fleeting but powerful moment of grace amid the dissonance...

Screenshot from polarportal.dk, a website that makes research on the Arctic research conducted by Danish institutions available to the public and researchers. The image shows Greenland in tan and the Greenland Ice Sheet in red and white. The red part indicates melting and covers all except about 20% in the northeast, which is roughly the area higher than 2500 m above Se level.

Below the map is a chart that compares 2025 melting to the 1981-2010 average. The average melting peaks in mid-July at about 35%. For the last few days, melting has occurred over roughly 80% of the area of Greenland, with a maximum melt area of 80.6% on 24 July 2025. This is the highest value in our dataset, which starts in 1981.

The International Court of Justice #ICJ found that 1.5°C is the ‘primary goal’ under the Paris Agreement and countries must act on climate with the 'highest ambition' to meet this.

There is nothing liberating or subversive in the use of AI. It undermines critical and creative thinking, and makes a large part of the population even more dependent on a few tech billionaires and their companies.

In Zeiten von rechtsextremer Gewalt und einem aufstrebenden Faschismus, müssen wir Antifaschist:innen zusammenstehen. Nie wieder ist jetzt.

New article out in World Politcs. We analyze how different groups react to varying programs of social democratic parties. We find less trade-offs than often assumed. Generally, more left-progressive programs increase support among social democratic potentials

yeah, I'm just writing a term paper ;) But I would argue it helps sometimes. If you are looking for a certain aspect of the paper, it makes it easier to jump to the right section. I try to include one sentence describing what happens in the section.

Harvard hired a researcher to uncover its ties to slavery. He says the results cost him his job: ‘We found too many slaves’ When the extent of the university’s involvement with slavery was unearthed, a scholar tracking descendants of enslaved workers was suddenly fired

"Harrington wouldn’t give him a clear answer about his funding request, telling him, 'Unfortunately you keep finding more slaves,' he said, and that “every new person is a source of guilt and shame for Harvard.'"

Yeah, I'm sure that'll go away if you just bury it.
