5 March 2026 - Are we alone in the Universe? In this ETH Global Lecture, Pete Worden, former Director of NASA’s Ames Research Center, joins ETH exoplanetary scientist Sascha Quanz to discuss the latest advances in the search for life beyond Earth and the potential implications of finding it. This conversation explores both the science driving the quest and what discovering new life could mean for humanity.
Simon Peter “Pete” Worden, (Brig Gen, USAF, Ret, PhD) is the Chairman of the Breakthrough Prize Foundation and Executive Director of the foundation’s ‘Breakthrough Initiatives’. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Arizona.
Sascha is an exoplanetary scientist, principal investigator (PI) and leading the Exoplanets & Habitability Research Group in the Department of Physics at ETH Zurich. He is driven by the long-term goal to search for life outside our Solar System, i.e., on planets orbiting stars other than our Sun. The work of his team is focused on the development and implementation of the LIFE space mission for which Sascha is the PI.
Join us for an exciting Global Lecture in collaboration with ETH Space as we delve into the complexities of exploring the cosmos, and journey beyond our Solar System to find life beyond our planet. ethz.ch/en/the-eth-z... @ethz.ch
