Real Climate Solutions Are Beneath Us - Eos It’s time to accept that durable subsurface carbon storage, along with emissions reductions, must be part of the plan to mitigate the effects of climate change—and geoscience must play a central role.

Drastically reducing CO2 emissions should be humanity’s first priority for mitigating climate change, but at this point, the scale of mitigation needed goes beyond reducing annual emissions, says @peterreiners.bsky.social. eos.org/opinions/rea...

Chubby Gila Monster on gravel.

My doggo made a friend in the backyard today. Lots of dramatic hissing. I’ve probably met them before but I haven’t memorized the patterns yet. April/May is prime Gila Monster time!

West side of Huachuca Mtns. See the relatively modest border fence, one of the last places allowing wildlife crossings between Arizona and Mexico (about 1/3 of way from bottom of pic)? Enjoy because it’s about to be replaced with a massive militarized, idiotic, and environmentally devastating wall.

Lab archeology: Found this beautifully inscribed ladder from July 1957, belonging to the Institute for Atmospheric Physics (azmemory.azlibrary.gov/nodes/view/9...), which was devoted to research on cloud seeding. Also happened in July 1957: Paul McCartney meets John Lennon; start of IGY.
