A TNG scene. We're in the Enterprise conference room, where Picard is holding a meeting with Data, Troi, and Dr Crusher. Barclay is also there, for unknown reasons. Maybe he wandered into the meeting and just sat down, and everyone was too polite to mention it. That happened to me once. I was visiting an office location I didn't normally go to and I wasn't quite sure which conference room I was supposed to be in. I walked into one and sat down and it took me five minutes to realize I was in the wrong meeting. From the perspective of the people in that room, halfway through that meeting, a stranger walked in, sat next to the boss, took notes for five minutes, then walked out without saying a word.

At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes

There had better be trials. And not just for the low-level thugs carrying out these orders, but for everyone up the chain of command.

If we get past this, the solution isnโ€™t to pretend it never happened and invite Stephen Miller to Harvardโ€™s Institute of Politics.

Itโ€™s trials w real punishments.

you just turn 18. you've been in a discord server for a while. you're finally allowed to join the NSFW channel. you open the channel. it's only them posting about OSHA violations at their workplaces and how they're going to unionise.

The cops freely admit that his post was not, in fact, a threat, but because unnamed anonymous people allegedly believed it to be a threat, they decided Bushart is criminally responsible for other people's lack of reading comprehension. So any speech can be arbitrarily deemed a threat now, it seems.

The school where the shooting happened was in Iowa, but it had a name similar (but not identical) to a high school local to Bushart. The Sheriff alleges that "people in the community" interpreted it as a threat (there is zero evidence of this), and so they arrested him for making threats.

Meme posted by Larry Bushart. Meme shows Donald Trump quoted as saying "We have to get over it." Quote: "Donald Trump, on the Perry High School mass shooting one day after." Bushart's caption upon the meme is "This seems relevant today..." It was posted on Facebook in a group discussing the Charlie Kirk shooting.

Trump said something callous about a school shooting. Bushart posted a meme showing that, with the sentiment of "seems relevant today..." because he was highlighting the hypocrisy of Trump saying we need to "get over" a school shooting, but then hosting a ridiculous ceremony over Kirk's shooting.

The cops admit his post wasn't a threat, but because supposedly "people in the community" mistakenly thought it was a threat, they jailed him for a month anyway.

So apparently you can be arrested purely based on unnamed strangers allegedly believing you posted a threat, even if you factually didn't

Two humorous social media posts about cats believing their owners can control nature, like rain and sunlight.

Transcribed Text:

Feline_Tales

My cats have this meow that means โ€œplease come with me to fix thisโ€ after which theyโ€™ll lead me to the problem in question, usually a empty (or โ€˜emptyโ€™) food bowl or a closed door they want open. They look at the โ€˜problemโ€™, they look back at me, clear message.

What fascinates me is how this illustrates what they percieve as being in the realm of my โ€˜power.โ€™ I control the food, I control the door, sure, but my cats love to sit on the balcony in the sun, and it has happened plenty of times that on a rainy day they come get me, go to the balcony and show me... the rain. โ€œPlease fix thisโ€ they say. โ€œPlease get rid of the wetโ€

โ€œSilly kitty,โ€ I say, โ€œI canโ€™t control the rain.โ€ I then walk into the shower and turn on the rain.

purrfect_logic

I hope this is a universal cat owner experience. Every single night he begs me to turn the sun back on so he can watch birds on the balcony. I tell him no, I cannot do that.

But I can turn lights on and off in the house and heโ€™s fairly certain Iโ€™m just not applying myself properly here.
