It feels odd to call it queer because this is an opposite gender relationship but I do want to break the conventions of traditional male-female relationships which seem to hold that sex is inevitable, even (or especially) in 21st century works.

Thinking about my backburnered Arthurian project in which Arthur and one of the ladies of the lake have a lifelong it’s-complicated situationship.

Yeah I would think that British Christianity developing its own heresy indicates that it was pretty well established.

Tbh all the evidence from post-Roman Britain on all issues can be summed up as *shrug*

For me trope graphics don’t work because they’re decontextualized. I have no particular attachment to, for example, There Is Only One Bed. Telling me that your story uses this trope doesn’t actually tell me if I’ll like it or not.

I admit that memes work but also just talking about your story and characters and why you like them and think they’re interesting.

But then again maybe Patrick’s family was just weird.

Patrick characterized himself as not very devout in his youth, which I’m willing to believe. But he also claimed to be the son of a presbyter and grandson of a priest which imo indicates that there was generational transmission of Christianity/church offices at least sometimes.

Conventional wisdom is that Christianity wasn’t very well established in Roman and early post Roman Britain’s and I mean there are good reasons to think this but the fact that Patrick came from Britain seems to indicate it put down some roots.
