An Aurora Framed

I planned for this shot to have a nice wee shape, with dark skies across the top. The trouble with Aurora though, they don't listen! So much bigger and more intense than expected!

Yes! There was a point during that night where I was jumping up and down in the middle of a gravel road in the middle of the wilderness going "woohoo!!! Epppppiiiiiiic!!!!".
(In a most undignified and unbecoming manner!) 🀣 🀣

The price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance.
... the duty of *every voter* is to reject every attempt to move to Fascism or Authoritarianism.

(Which is why we need better civics education, amongst a lot of electoral reform.)

If anything, the one thing that really has changed is how good our cameras are now, and how cheap.

I have images from 2 cycles ago, where the sky was almost as vibrant - but my poor camera just wasn't up to it.

We've even got records from James Cook's explorations, where he records aurora!

There are quite a few webcams that broadcast live - it's not quite the same, but you get close... and stay warmer !!

I'm a fan of the Staying Warmer part :)

Wow. Haven't thought of that one in decades. It messed with my head!

:) I'm glad some folks are laughing!

It's a funny thing how all these flat earthers set off with such fanfare, and come back very quietly, tail tucked between their legs!

It's solar maximum. Every 11 years, the sun gets more active, and we get 2 or 3 storms like this every cycle.

I've seen several since the 80s.

This is very cool, and very pretty, but it's no more mystical than a sunset. :)

I reckon all politicians need to re-sit the tests, and if they fail, they can't stand.

I'm concerned about the prerequisite for having fallen. Can I just stumble a bit ?

Don't get my hopes up!

So you're saying we're really wasting all that CO2 we're spewing into the air, when we could be using it to make the sparkling oceans really sparkling?

I've always mean to pack a sandwich and maybe a couple of bottles of coke from the corner store, and go for a walk and have a look. Never quite got around to it.

Hail Great A'Tuin.

Right below me comes out a few miles north-west of Portugal :)

I checked.
(but not with a spade.)

Surely it would be two dimensional? One for each of their brain cells!

I kinda wish they all would!

This is exactly what happened. Yup! LOL

I wrote a little scene for a laugh, to go with the image.
It doesn't *mean* anything.

It's very interesting to me to see such a wide range of reactions.

05.12.2025 13:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

There is no Dark Side of the Sun.
Matter of fact, it's all dark!

... well, bugger, now I need to go listen to Pink Floyd. :) :)

I am exquisitely pleased that this joke was the first response to the picture :)
