The Penta-Progressive

Had a stunning revelation after over 23 years as a volunteer firefighter/rescue technician. I joined the emergency services community to help others. But a primary motivation for so many in this line of work seems to be “restore order” and I’ve been thinking a lot about that lately.

And that’s the progressive problem. 
When we fixate only on the subsets, we divide ourselves, we do the work of the fascists for them. 
There are universal progressive themes, we need to make them our own via consistency, repetition & action.

Where is all the rest? 
Where are LGBQT rights? 
Black Lives Matter? 
What about ______________? (Insert your favorite sub-cause). 
They don’t go away. But those are not truly universal issues.

So, the 5 things:
#1 Free Speech is for the People, not for things.
#2 Healthcare is a Right 

#3 Free and Fair Elections. 

#4 Universal & Fair Taxation

#5 Carbon-free Energy.

This one is massive, complex, and possible. But only if we kick aside the people who have vested interests in the carbon economy, as well as those who use their religious beliefs to drive policy.

#4 Rationalize Taxation
No way to avoid of taxation of people and entities with the means to pay. Institute a negative tax to provide income for the poor.

Good suggestion for a slight change:
Free Speech is for People, not Things.

I like that. It covers AI & Corporations.

#3 Free and Fair Elections.
Start with the electoral college must be abolished. Continue to abolish Gerrymandering in favor of simple geography-based apportionment. Uncap the size of the house of representatives. There's more.

#2 Healthcare is a Right.
Just keep at it. Over and over and over and over. No compromise on this one. Single-payer for all.

#1 - Free Speech is For People.
Not for-profits, not AIs. People.

Citizen United is just one of the bad things that comes with the idea of a for-profit corporation having "rights" (including freedom of speech).

The right is very good at simple messages. "God, Guns, Babies" and so on. I'm not calling the counter to this "the Left" because Progressive ≠ Leftist. The challenge is that Progressives don't have a simple equivalent. The concept is simple. We need a 5-word equivalent.

Where I live, the nearest ambulance service has shut down between 6pm and 6am. Even before they shut down night service, response times were 30+ minutes. Now I will have to be more diligent in planning medical emergencies. #ems #buckscounty

Common sense is contextual.

There are many, many things that are "common knowledge" in other contexts but not mine. I'm always glad to learn new things from you, even when you think "everyone" knows.

I have never watched a scene with such perfect concurrency. They are both such fantastic performers.

I’ve done this more than once in my life.

This works at a scale of millions, it can work at a scale of 100’s of millions.

This is a cup of coffee I purchased in the City of Montreal this morning. Note that the lid is paper. The cup is paper. You can’t get a plastic fork here. Montreal (and to a degree Canada) has figured out that the only way to eliminate single-use plastic is to cut off the supply by banning it.

Because it is not the sort of thing you get the first, second, third or 200th time you ask. This is the sort of thing that takes years to happen, and it starts in local and state elections. And remember: there are also people who HATE this idea - you just don’t know them.

This is such a simple idea because there is already legal terminology to cover it.

Only if someone is listening…the main problem I face these days is too many people in ham seem to have forgotten DMR is just another internet-dependent chat room that happens to use a radio as a wireless microphone/speaker attached to their wifi base. I monitor 146.52, nobody is ever there.
