Pew Research Center asked a representative sample of American adults about press freedom in April 2024. Here’s what we found: 73% of adults say that freedom of the press is extremely or very important to the well-being of society, with 44% saying this is extremely important. 18% say it’s somewhat important. 8% say it is a little or not at all important, with only 2% saying this is not at all important.
