I definitely had all of those issues of Nintendo Power as a kid, and Gunstar Heores is one of the greatest games ever made.

I did the Platinum for both PS4 and PS5 versions. Love this game. But boy did it disturb me at times.

Well deserved. I'm only maybe 5 hours in (schedule conflicts with my friends I'm playing with through the game, plus he just discovered Helldivers 2 so a lot of liber-tea going around), but it's fantastic from what I've played so far.
