06.12.2025 00:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Presumably, given that people disagree, they would give different answers about what is obvious (to them). Because things aren't obvious to nobody from nowhere, and appeals to "obviousness" are terrible ways of settling disputes.

I think @zackpolanski.bsky.social was actually right to be raising the questions and challenging Rory's orthodox views
Thanks, just read that thread. Would you say that MMT is right in some regards, or that it has insights which are important for being able to implement fiscal policy that achieves desired political outcomes, BUT it's more complicated than that, OR, it's total rubbish?
05.12.2025 17:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Have you written your take / reflection on any of this?
Im sure @zackpolanski.bsky.social would love to continue growing his views from people like yourself ( with postgraduate degrees to Rory's satisfaction!)
Just to say, I have enjoyed everyone's contributions, even though those were my favourites of the year!

I wonder if Snell's law holds!
This timing makes a lot more sense now, doesnβt it?
Adm. Alvin Holsey resigned in October as commander of U.S. Southern Command right after flagging concerns about those U.S. military strikes on βsuspectedβ drug boats in the Caribbean.
He served for 37 years.
Thanks for what you're doing. In my opinion, the sort of thing that a democratic society owes its citizens in the school system: an educated and informed demos being essential to a democratic society.
I only worry we can't reach enough people before the next GE and get Reform DOGEigarchy
History Hit:
- Excellent for everything history. My favourites I listened to this year
- Goliath's Curse: A case study on the causes of societal collapse
- Roman Britain, Boudica (particularly interesting with me moving to Verulamium)
- Politics around the end of WW2
- The death of Hitler
Past Present Future:
- Excellent series on democratic institutions, their history and various arguments around various systems of government, amongst other things. ( for example I enjoyed learning about the end of the Bretton-Woods system here too )
History Hit:
- ...
Nullius (contd):
- Fairly evaluating different approaches to statistical tools and situating them in real life research
Conspirituality:
- I've particularly enjoyed the series on anti-fascist Christianity incl the episodes on Bonhoeffer and Niebuhr's influences on him and Simone Weil.
Decoding the Gurus:
- Generally staying on top of the cesspit of weird grifters and their cults who all seem to make their way into MAGA eventually
Nullius in Verba:
- The sociology of Statistics and some great Philosophy of Science ( I particularly enjoyed that reading from that Marxist guy)

Every year since 1988, the United States has recognized World AIDS Day β until now.
Why not? Maybe because the Trump administration doesnβt want to acknowledge that its foreign aid cuts led to nearly 150,000 deaths from AIDS, according to Boston University researchers.
Shameful.

Of course, what you're doing here would very easily be described by a naturalist and anthropologist of religion as narrativising your heritage and canonising your saints in much the same way as early Christians doing Midrash on the Old Testament, or Aquinas re-interpreting Aristotle... ;)

Itβs also a *massive* challenge for Lisa Nandy, who has so far failed to impress anyone as culture secretary.
We are so far through the looking glass that the man who tried to overthrow an election becomes president, the people who attacked the Capitol are turned into martyrs, & it's the BBC that gets punished - cheered on by the worst news outlets in the UK & the two most dishonest politicians of our age.

My wealth has increased by 25% since June. I have done absolutely nothing to earn this. I just put it in a tracker fund. I will be taxed on that gain at a lower rate than during the Thatcher government.
Iβd pay more tax to make this country better and stop Putin in his tracks.
