After signing in for the first time in over a year, I checked some of my followers/ following accounts. So far ALL of them appear like mine, no activity for years, usually with a note re: bsky or mastodon handles.

If we ALL deleted our accounts... those user / audience numbers would be way smaller

Answering my own Q for future reference:
- looks like it's still split, but after seeing a couple more security /privacy pros deleting and more importantly announcing it, I'm deactivating both my personal and business Twitters.

Ubisoft is no more, long live Ubisoft!

On January 21, 2026, Yves Guillemot announced the end of remote work, closure of several studios, cancellation of projects, and a new 200€ million “cost-cutting” plan. We were informed of this at the same time as the press — as none of these changes had been discussed during the mandatory consultations with the works councils a few days earlier! On January 26, 2026, management announced the implementation of a voluntary departure plan that will affect 200 people at Ubisoft’s headquarters.

We are promised autonomy for « Creative Houses », but what about autonomy for employees? We have been negotiating for over a year on remote work policy, sometimes under difficult conditions. An agreement has been in place since September in some studios. Trampled underfoot!

We are told about responsibilities, but those who wield this word so easily do not take any responsibility for the consequences of their catastrophic management.

We are not fooled: rather than taking financial responsibility for layoffs, they prefer to push us out by making our working conditions unbearable. It’s outrageous.

It is because we love Ubisoft that this situation revolts us. Ubisoft’s unions are calling for a massive international strike by all Ubisoft employees on the 10th, 11th and 12th of February 2026.

NO
to their anti-remote-work obsession
to “cost-cutting” plans on employees’ backs
to top-down decisions
to coercive control on our working conditions

YES
to our leaders truly taking their responsibilities
to management’s duty of sincerity in the face of its failings

It is time for our management to understand that they cannot do whatever they want, whether with public money or the work of hundreds of people!

Without us, Ubisoft would never have conquered and transformed video games as it has. WE ARE UBISOFT.

🇬🇧✊🌀 Ubisoft : enough is enough! Faced with the arbitrary decision of the CEO who doesn’t even dare talking to employees anymore, unions are calling for a strike on February 10th, 11th and 12th.

Serious Q for #Privacy #CyberSecurity & #Tech peeps. I (like many) have been keeping my Twitter account around mainly to avoid scammers from scooping up my handle to scam others. Is that still the prevailing recommendation or should we 100% delete those accounts?

Drop the names of any Canadian companies you’ve seen working with ICE in the comments.

I’m aware of Gardaworld, Roshel, Hootsuite.

Would love to gather any and all other names.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

White. Hot. Rage.

Alex Pretti’s last words were “are you ok?” said the woman next to him who ICE also pepper sprayed in the face.

YOUR RING CAMERA IS AN ICE AGENT

"In October of 2025, Amazon's Ring announced its partnership with FLOCK, an A.I. surveillance group that freely shares its footage with ICE, the secret service, and the navy. Flock customers can use A.I. tools to sift through footage to assist in all manner of operations (like raids and deportations) without a warrant. Unplug Ring! Melt ICE! Protect your neighbors!

jack asked if i would sketch up a poster to tell people in nearby neighborhoods about the partnership between flock and ring, and this is what i came up with. it can be printed on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper.

Opening post for GM4CF!

This all got kickstarted by layoffs abound in the game industry

Then... our Ubisoft studio (local to Halifax, NS) was closed mere weeks after unionizing!! 😱😡

The writing is on the wall - we need more alternatives to big investor driven business!

Let's learn how together

Still boycotting here in NS. Also haven't been to Superstore since May 2024. Sadly haven't found a Canadian replacement for some Celiac approved cereals and breads yet so not 100% US free yet. 🍁

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

This is the weekend I install Linux Mint and start testing it as my main gamedev machine. Still trying to sort out if VM or dual boot is the best option for my windows-only tools...

Either way, I'm pretty excited about this!

Surprise layoffs are wrecking morale - and productivity - more effectively than any union ever could.

People will feel unsafe because of this, the most experienced ones, able to find a job elsewhere will seek to escape that suffocating atmoshpere, leaving the juniors and yes-men, alone.

the empire state building in new york city is surrounded by tall buildings Alt: The empire state building in New York city is centered in the frame and surrounded by tall buildings. Miss Piggy (the Muppet) walks by wearing her preppy 80s cool girl fashionista swine-about-town look. A blue knit cardigan, white blouse with blue polka dots, white gloves and a matching blue denim shoulder bag. She turns her head to the right, with a frizzy permed blonde head of hair that barely moves due to the hairspray, back towards the Empire State Building to gaze in awe and admiration.

Congratulations New York!

Cancelling YouTube Premium is gonna sting. YT is my main video content source but the recent $24B settlement is not something I want my $$$ supporting. I have Nebula already... I guess I just support creators directly w/Patreon now??? It feels so fragmented but happy to hear any friend suggestions.

🍁data sovereignty quest continues...
Managed to untangle my business away from Microsoft & Google clouds. In the process of turning off my personal YT Premium and Google One accounts. Proton's got my personal cloud covered... testing out Qobuz for music and so far so good.

I did make the switch to Proton Business. Happy with the move, EXCEPT for the Calendar. It's unusable for me right now. Without seeing an Event title, it's pretty useless for my workflow. Was trying to find a biz API so I could code something for my own needs but not yet. Trying to be patient :)

If you ever write a blog post about it, let me know. It's such a PITA to set up and keep it that way. I logged into my personal OneDrive from the edge browser once, and then it linked my local windows biz account to my personal OneDrive... a mess bc I didn't realize files had been syncing for a bit

I've reduced some of the nag popups and I'm sure there's more config stuff I can do that I'm not aware of but I just want to pay for my pro license and be able to customize my machine like I used to. Sigh. Now I feel like old lady shakes fist at cloud lol

I don't get any ads, it's just getting harder and harder to have my own custom Windows box these days. I like to have a personal acct and my biz one. My biz one is always a local account and the OS is always nagging me to set up OneDrive, or some other "security" feature.

I love Notepad++, and switched back this morning lol. I reformatted my main machine last year and noticed Notepad had been updated to be a bit more notepad++-like, so I decided to use it. Not as good, but I mostly use it as my day-to-day scratch pad.
Agree Notepad++ is far superior.

I seriously miss the days of just logging into my desktop and getting to work without my OS distracting me.

I'm exploring some Linux options and would love it if any of my dev peeps have made the switch. My web projects are probably an easy switch, game dev though is gonna be tricky.

To me, AI is just another tool. I want to choose where and when I use it.
My big issue with Windows isn't even just the AI, it's that I pay for a pro license and I still get f*king nagged ALL THE TIME. Use this service, turn this thing on, you're not connected to OneDrive, and on and on...

30.05.2025 14:00 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Yep. I've at least got the benefit of being experienced with linux servers, but I always struggle as soon as I start using a desktop and then trying to develop anything other than web apps.
