I finally changed the name of my game. Nexus turned out to be a super common name, and although I'm sad to lose the joke about the Torment Nexus, this suits the game much better.

v0.5.2 is also out. Check out the devlog on itch.

Wow! This really well-made. I hate it, but it's well-made.

I also posted a YouTube Short. I'm not a huge fan of short form content, but YouTube promotes them like crazy. www.youtube.com/shorts/B5dst...

New Nexus update. I actually bothered to write a devlog on itch this time. Not sure why the cover image I uploaded isn't showing as the thumbnail here, though?

The Wii had absolutely amazing first-party games, though, so I guess it worked out.

That's the main issue with Nintendo consoles. They always have some wacky control scheme that opens up a lot of possibilities for Nintendo's first-party games but limits the ability to port games from other platforms. The Wii, for example.

I see a lot of game devs here showing off projects they claim are in early development, but they always seem to have very polished visuals.

Nexus has a solid gameplay foundation, but it's hard to show of because there's not much there visually.

I don't really do "sponsored" streams

instead I look up all the coolest indie games coming out in a week, message the devs and go "hey can I play your game on stream" and write a sincere message about why I'm interested and excited, and reliably get like 4-5 keys back to try out

Finished up equipment swapping things ~

Got pistol-to-rifle weapon swapping working pretty smoothly. Had to make sure the animations blended into each other well. I might increase their swap speeds in the future

There are games that don't have a main menu at all. Warframe's the first one I think of.

When you're fighting for something, you need to understand what you're fighting for and against. Ask for what you want, not a thing that sort of sounds like what you want. You'll get a lot further.

There is no such thing as "ownership" of digital goods. You can't own a video game because there are infinite copies. GOG sells an *irrevocable* license to play those games. They don't sell some nebulous "ownership."

31.01.2026 14:35 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This bothers me every time I see it. People are (rightfully) upset that Steam can revoke licenses to games you've bought. They prop up GOG as an alternative that sells true ownership of your games. This is totally incorrect.

Most of my time recently has been spent on the painstaking process of sound design. Unfortunately, the game feels too lopsided when I implement just one or two sounds, so I'm waiting until I have a bit more done.

There are some who call me scarzehd. I've got a lot of projects but my main one right now is Nexus. You can think of it like a mix of ULTRAKILL and The Binding of Isaac. I'm not an artist so my games lack visual polish, but I think I make up for it in mechanical depth. #GameDev

Getting out of tutorial hell is one of the best feelings. Now, I can spend hours getting angry at myself instead of a stranger in a tutorial.

I always expected coding to be the most important part of game dev. Turns out, you can sort of skirt by with the bare minimum there. I guess I should have learned to draw sooner.

I do like the idea of being able to press Ctrl+G to group things, though. I find myself wanting to do that a lot when prototyping levels with CSGBoxes.

28.01.2026 03:05 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

That honestly sounds way more complicated, and it could only really take into account one scene at a time anyway, right?

28.01.2026 03:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

What kind of game could even justify the work to require this?

I don't know if I'd call them a "pretty fucking evil company." They're certainly no saint (though what company is?), but their only real issue is their complete refusal to do anything about all the sketchy Counter Strike gambling sites.

28.01.2026 02:53 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

28.01.2026 02:50 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

A lot of these would be easy enough to implement, but some of them don't really make sense. Like reversing the scene tree, how do you account for nodes with different Z index or with top level set to true?
