Here's a handful of books that will forever live rent-free free in my mind. Unfortunately I ugly-cry tears of happiness when characters have space to be themselves, to be soft, and are loved for who they are and not expected to change themselves to fit some rigid box the world demands of them. Authors Crowley, Upton, Barbosa, Stewart, Bradford, Lemming, and Robert are all exceptional at writing this dynamic and I'll be reading more by them all asap.

Graphic depicting a review: Dawn of the Obsidian Sun sank its claws deep into my heart and didn't free me until I turned the final page. Even now, I feel my heart has been properly ripped from my chest. This novel features transcendental world-building and breathtaking imagery throughout a dual timeline and a thick plot with complex characters. Author R. N. Barbosa writes of found family, religious trauma, and familial expectations in a queernormative, fantastical setting. Deserving of accolades, their characters form profound connections in this action-packed, adventure-filled, dark fantasy with romantic elements. A high fantasy tale with a fascinating magic system, this story is enthralling, at times comedic, and full of angst as well as yearning. I absolutely loved this book and look forward to what Barbosa writes next!

Here's another top fantasy read of the year for me. Sapphic, tragic, adventure-filled, and absolutely incredible. 🙌 #darkfantasy #bookrecs #bookrecommendations

Graphic for a recent Five-star read: When histories and cultures are erased, the narrative reshaped to fit an imperialist ruling that claims oppression as the only option, perspective is key, and any choice can have dire consequences. Woven into an intensely heartbreaking plot surrounding corruption and colonization, systemic dehumanization, and devastating loss, there is found-family, varying kinds of love, and optimism when faced with impossible odds, that will keep the reader holding onto glimmers of hope until the final page. Cry, Voidbringer, a gripping dark fantasy, by author Elaine Ho is a novel filled with stunning prose, well-rounded characters, incredible imagery, and thought-provoking moments. I had the honor of receiving this as an ARC through netgalley, and honestly, this was a top read of the year for me. I look forward to reading more by Ho!

My Review of Cyrus by A.E. Cosby: Dripping with the most depraved facets of dark romance, where every character is morally questionable, and woven with the stunning paranormal imagery of the world found in their other works, author A E Cosby has written an engrossing and devastating tale. Cyrus is a polyromantic tragedy with four significant characters and follows the actions that lead them to a sorrowful end. Intense chemistry between well-rounded personalities, including the secondary characters, and an unpredictable plot are only a small sample of how this book showcases Cosby's abilities. Featuring heavy topics and themes, the author expertly conveys each character's emotions and feelings subtly while keeping the story written in singular POV. This impressive writing style is evident in the more intense scenes. Aside from the serious aspects, this novel is deliciously filthy and practically sticky with the amount of bodily fluids depicted throughout. The spice, as always, is top shelf quality. Cyrus is book one of the Blood & Hearts Duology and may be read before The Chaos Series. I must say, reading this first might make certain details in The Chaos Series even sweeter. I had the honor of receiving this as an ARC and highly recommend it. It's the 4th book by A. E. Cosby that I've read and absolutely loved it and cannot wait to see what Cosby achieves next!
