Londoners just don't understand how bad public transport is outside the London and its periphery. This is the first government in a while that is actually interested in fixing the problems up here. By no means is this "levelling down" London.

It's only right that London politicians are sticking up for their area, but they have to understand how this rhetoric sounds to everyone outside of the capital when London has had more than it's fair share of transport investment over the years

Good to speak to people in Marsden today about local issues and Labour’s plan to make work pay:

✅ Minimum wage rise of up to £1,400 a year for 3 million workers
✅ Right to parental leave from day 1 of a new job
✅ Banning exploitative zero hours contracts and fire and rehire

Had to go to Marsden today, so on the way back I called in at Castleshaw Roman Fort. Goodness knows what the soldiers from far-flung parts of the Empire would have made of this weather.

The government has funded the Transpennine Route Upgrade and the station upgrades to Slaithwaite and Marsden.

However TransPennine Express has withdrawn direct services from Slaithwaite and Marsden to Leeds.

It is important that local people’s voices are heard and SMART are pledging to do that.

Work is scheduled to start in April this year (none withstanding unforeseen delays).

This is a £1.5 million investment which includes:

✅ Resurfacing with a new “tar, spray and chip” surface
✅ Retaining original stone setts
✅ Widening across most of the route
✅ Accessible access improvements at Marsden Lane and Lingards Wood
✅ New and repaired seating and signage

🚲🚶 Good news that @tracybrabinmayorwy.bsky.social has approved the canal towpath improvements from Marsden to Slaithwaite today.

This will provide an accessible walking and cycling route and follows on from the recent towpath improvements between Milnsbridge and Slaithwaite.

Trump has pulled the security of former government officials we know are under threat simply because he doesn't like them. And he's done it at the same time as released a load of very angry, very violent, likely highly armed individuals who are loyal to him.

It is dark stuff.
