It’s really great to see it being talked about more, though, because we’re moving from β€œhow could we simulate a theoretical living system” to β€œhow can we describe actual biology using these models.” It’s an exciting area to work in right now!

Great paper, but I’m always surprised how network sci isn’t already more widely adopted in empirical bio models. There is a lot of potential in connecting existing ALife and computer graphics research. E.g our bio simulation is a probabilistic grammar as a multilayered graph: epcc.itch.io/idu

A friend asked if we eat its flowers here, yet to us even observing the banana is a novelty; it’s a space station situation. The only natural light it’s seen would be the few summer rays filtered by the windows. It decided to live despite our forgetfulness, in a fully enclosed synthetic environment.

Listen, I’m far up North and we grew it indoors on hydroponics and I have never seen a banana flower so this is a very big deal right now

The rise in temperature paired with high humidity and the fact that the sun sets around midnight for a short time so your whole body is getting cooked by the sun at a 45-degree angle is not good.

Is it possible to get the ammonite and other shirts online? I’m not in the UK so couldn’t come :( Thanks!

They’ll be so lucky to work with you! Hope there’ll be another opportunity, too. Would try in a heartbeat, but can’t travel due to my health situation at the moment. Best of luck to you and all applicants :)

This is so exciting! Too late to register now, but I'll be looking out for future events and just joined AWAP as a member as well, as I'm planning to stay in paleoecological modelling for a while πŸ’š

I’m an undergrad maths student (part-time due to physical disability) working on researching extinction dynamics and critical transitions in ancient ecosystems by developing simulations based on fossil data.

I’m open about my disability despite the stigma to make it easier for us all.

Just 8 million years before the end-Permian "great dying" mass extinction there was another mass extinction - the End-Guadalupian Mass Extinction, aka Mid-Permian Mass Extinction, ALSO triggered by a Large Igneous Province (LIP) βš’οΈπŸ§ͺπŸ‘‡

I wrote this for my university's Maths & Stats department newsletter, OpenInterval, and the full version is available here: www3.open.ac.uk/documents/3/zx…

We’re currently working in a paper and introduced a lot of new methods, so I’ll post more details when it’s published! πŸŒ‹

What has math got to do with dinosaurs? πŸ¦•

Here's an intro to my #simulation work on plausible ecosystems of the Permian-Triassic where I created probabilistic networks of ancient feeding behaviors based on a collection of fossil specimens.
