the (generalized) anti-ai movement is still a moral panic with a lot of misinformed fearmongering and in due time people will just forget and not care but i know a lot of you are not ready for that conversation

Excerpt from the Moog Synthesizer Wikipedia page: Industry - The Guardian wrote that the Moog synthesizer, with its dramatically new sounds, arrived at a time in American history when, in the wake of the Vietnam War, "nearly everything about the old order was up for revision". Session musicians felt synthesizers, with their ability to imitate instruments such as strings and horns, threatened their jobs. For a period, the Moog was banned from use in commercial work in the US, a restriction negotiated by the American Federation of Musicians (known as AFM). Robert Moog felt that the AFM had not realized that the synthesizer was an instrument to be learned and mastered like any other, and instead imagined that [quote] all the sounds that musicians could make somehow existed in the Moog - all you had to do was push a button that said Jascha Helitetz and out would come out the most fantastic violin player [unquote].

Of course, the can of worms of "should software be closed or open-source" and the effects about profiting through software sales is a whole other can of worms too..

This is not about what you asked, but this is an antidote I got reminded of. FL Studio, property of Image-Line, has a whole section on their website about reporting Piracy. I once heard a statistic they said that FL Studio wasn't profitable until relatively recently because of 'lost profits'.

Can you source this? I've heard and agree about the idea that people who pirate will usually buy games or spread stuff through word of mouth. But you're claiming pirates will spend more 'on average' than most consumers! That I'm very intrigued by if true..

One could see it as they were laid off because of ai, which is in itself piracy. 😌

That being said I didn't read the full TOS about YouTube, Twitter, BlueSky - I'm not trying to be too on the high horse, I'm just saying I've read more TOS's then most people have! lol

I might be the only person in the world that reads at least some bit of TOS. I know it's technically different, I was reading TOS's of an employer I'm trying to get hired too and the background check processer to know my rights. Most people, not even my parents, read the TOS like I!

I don't feel any shame for those first two years. Make your product worth supporting, and I'll support it. If you're afraid of piracy, release a demo.

That said, if the studio flounders, maybe the problem isn't money being lost to pirates. Maybe the money is being lost on exorbitant CEO bonuses.

i hate that "maybe this album will have a secret jay-z verse on it" type shit. you can talk yourself out of enjoying something good because it didn't fulfill some random expectations somebody put in your head.
