I think it's worth mentioning that this sort of intellectual property landlordism is incompatible with the Internet. You can't want all:

a) Content you upload to the Internet being private
b) Content you upload to the Internet being accessible
c) Computers and the Internet like you understand them

The only thing I’d add as they are both debating an impossible premise, the antis are basically arguing for uninventing the technology (impossible), while the pros are arguing for outsourcing everything to it (also impossible)

If OpenAI lights $1 trillion on fire and achieves nothing of technical consequence whatsoever except for the destruction of existing US copyright and IP laws it would likely be the most effective pro-growth intervention in decades and more than easily justify spending that money.

i don't need to like guns to know that understanding how a gun functions and how a bullet injures you may be useful information in a first aid situation (g-d willing)

If AI really is that dangerous (and tbh I think it just might be) then all the more reason for each of us to try to develop an independent understanding of it.

Initially I sought to ask Al to supply Python code to search for a counterexample that I could run and adjust myself, but found that the run time was infeasible and the initial choice of parameters would have made the search doomed to failure anyway. I then switched strategies and instead engaged in a step by step conversation with the Al where it would perform heuristic calculations to locate feasible choices of parameters. Eventually, the Al was able to produce parameters which I could then verify separately (admittedly using Python code supplied by the same Al, but this was a simple 29-line program that I could visually inspect to do what was asked, and also provided numerical values in line with previous heuristic predictions).

copyright is probably the least empowering thing to artists large and small. by definition it can only restrict, not empower - the sole purpose of it, philosophically, is to say "you must abide by our (usually monetary) terms when creating media or get sued into a crater"
