I've been on mastodon! I bridged my account. Expect more general art if you follow me in the quoted post, but still a nice amount of bugs.

An overhead and slightly diagonal view of a bee made of snow in a neutral pose. It is fairly realistic, with 6 legs and a head, thorax, and abdomen. There are faint lines carved in the body to define the abdomen's segments. The wings are made of dried fennel branches and the
antennae are made of snapped echinacea stems.

A dorsal (directly above) view of the same snow bee from the previous photo. There are lines carved in the snow defining the medial and parapsidal lines of the thorax, and tegulae covering where the wings insert into the body. In the bottom of the frame there are two hiking boots that are around half the size of one bee leg for scale.

Thanks to a recent snowfall I was able to make this snow bee! I was thinking Lasioglossum, but I think this bee is a little large for that :)

We had a nice day in Death Valley. Perfect weather and cool to see Badwater Basin with water and reflections of the mountains. We heard that the last time was about 18 years ago.

Have you ever seen termites like these?!

Soldiers of the termite subfamily Nasutitermitinae have reduced (or absent!) mandibles, and a pointed snout at the front of their heads, which they use to defensively spray chemicals at predators! πŸ§ͺ

An anthropomorphic grasshopper stands on a light blue background. it is an off-white with numerous navy blue and orange markings that look like they're "painted" on the body. They have a broad build, with large femurs. Their tibia and femurs are crouched into an extremely digitigrade position, with elongated tarsomeres making up what would be the metapodia in a vertebrate. Their first pair of arms are more humanoid, while their lower pair end in a more traditional tarsus and pretarsus.

A drawing of a Citrus Root Weevil walking towards the viewer. Some of its legs are raised in high steps. The head and thorax are black, with some white around the eyes and two notable white stripes going down the sides following the bodylength. There are also white speckles across the top of the thorax. The wing casings are yellow with black striping going down the back, which have white outlines. The wing casings have a notable dimpled texture to them.

Behind the weevil is a purple hexagon background, with the top two sides having accent lines to add energy.

A drawing of a coconut octopus. It’s body ranges from reddish to purple to orange on the fringes, with dark markings on the sides of its orange eyes. The tentacles feature purples and blues as well, with the suckers in particular being a bright blue that appear to glow. Four of the tentacles curve outward from the body, and the remaining four are curled more closely under the body.

Behind the octopus are three dark teal circles, two of which are overlapped. They echo the small teal bubbles that are around the octopus' body to indicate being under water.

Overall the crab has a grumpy look, which is further accentuated by some grey-green action lines emanating from the crab’s direction.

A dragonlike anthropomorphic bug creature - a Buzz - hovers on a beige background. It's head is mostly rounded with a small "snout" and has 2 large compound eyes, two toothlike mouth projections, antennae, and a row of spikes down the back of the neck. It has 4 wings, a single pair of arms that ends in 3-fingered hands, and a pair of digitigrade legs that end in two claws. It has a long abdomen that resembles a tail with a pair of cerci at the end. It is mainly blue, with a yellow underbelly and claws. Their mid-length antennae, cerci, and spiked mane are green. There is a speech bubble extending near their mouth that contains a single yellow smiley with a contented face. There is a small headshot illustration on the bottom right that demonstrates the Buzz's "split lower jaw" (written on picture) opening.

An anthropomorphic woolly aphid rests on a bed of green-tinted cloudy material. The composition of the piece is identical to the album of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream", where the character has their knees bent and rests their arms near their head, which is turned towards the viewer. The character's abdomen is held above the rest of the body.

A design for an anthropomorphic fairy fly (a type of microscopic parasitoid wasp) stands on a dark blue background. They appear in mid-step and their upper left arm is held up close to their head. Their lightly jointed antennae exceed the length of half of their body. Their wings have been reduced into a stalk that rounds to a filamentous club. Their first pair of arms look more humanoid, ending in a three-fingered hand. The second pair is thin, delicate, and ends in tarsi more like a wasp's. Their coloration is warm yellows and oranges that give way to cooler blues towards the extremities, similar to a heat map or colored SEM image.

Oops, I forgot about Day 2 of Repostober! That's... in character for me. Anyways, today I've got another character concept, this time some much older art of a fairyfly made for a friend. Parasitoid wasp designs are always underrated, so I loved the chance to draw one for someone else!
