Thanks to a recent snowfall I was able to make this snow bee! I was thinking Lasioglossum, but I think this bee is a little large for that :)

We had a nice day in Death Valley. Perfect weather and cool to see Badwater Basin with water and reflections of the mountains. We heard that the last time was about 18 years ago.

Soldiers of the termite subfamily Nasutitermitinae have reduced (or absent!) mandibles, and a pointed snout at the front of their heads, which they use to defensively spray chemicals at predators! 🧪

An anthropomorphic grasshopper stands on a light blue background. it is an off-white with numerous navy blue and orange markings that look like they're "painted" on the body. They have a broad build, with large femurs. Their tibia and femurs are crouched into an extremely digitigrade position, with elongated tarsomeres making up what would be the metapodia in a vertebrate. Their first pair of arms are more humanoid, while their lower pair end in a more traditional tarsus and pretarsus.

Repostober Day 5: an older custom character of a painted grasshopper (Dactylotum bicolor)!

The Citrus root weevil, Coconut octopus, Common banded hover fly, and Calico crab!

Absolutely loving the variety in these animals, there's so much to appreciate.

A dragonlike anthropomorphic bug creature - a Buzz - hovers on a beige background. It's head is mostly rounded with a small "snout" and has 2 large compound eyes, two toothlike mouth projections, antennae, and a row of spikes down the back of the neck. It has 4 wings, a single pair of arms that ends in 3-fingered hands, and a pair of digitigrade legs that end in two claws. It has a long abdomen that resembles a tail with a pair of cerci at the end. It is mainly blue, with a yellow underbelly and claws. Their mid-length antennae, cerci, and spiked mane are green. There is a speech bubble extending near their mouth that contains a single yellow smiley with a contented face. There is a small headshot illustration on the bottom right that demonstrates the Buzz's "split lower jaw" (written on picture) opening.

Repostober day 4 (catching up): an interesting sketch from the archives: a redesign for a Neopet! I've always been a bit put off by the Buzz's design having that weird fleshy mouth. I wanted to make this redesign cute and approachable for bug lovers and phobes alike!

An anthropomorphic woolly aphid rests on a bed of green-tinted cloudy material. Day 3 of Repostober is an album cover redraw of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream!" This was a 2022 Art Fight attack for p34rs_ and their woolly aphid OC Erio! We love to see the hemipteran rep :)

A design for an anthropomorphic fairy fly (a type of microscopic parasitoid wasp) stands on a dark blue background. They appear in mid-step and their upper left arm is held up close to their head. Their lightly jointed antennae exceed the length of half of their body. Their wings have been reduced into a stalk that rounds to a filamentous club. Their first pair of arms look more humanoid, ending in a three-fingered hand. The second pair is thin, delicate, and ends in tarsi more like a wasp's. Their coloration is warm yellows and oranges that give way to cooler blues towards the extremities, similar to a heat map or colored SEM image.

Oops, I forgot about Day 2 of Repostober! That's... in character for me. Anyways, today I've got another character concept, this time some much older art of a fairyfly made for a friend. Parasitoid wasp designs are always underrated, so I loved the chance to draw one for someone else!

Week 2 of my nature journal! I found a really rare bug (a japygid) and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

I finished this page of nudibranchs! I unintentionally kept choosing white nudis so I just went with it.

Lovely photo! I believe that's a black witch moth, Ascalapha odorata. While they are beautiful, they're considered bad omens or lost souls in many different culture's folklore. Still a very cool find 👍
