Yesterday, GU Politics and GU College Democrats hosted a conversation on Black women in politics and the future of the Democratic party with Donna Brazile, and Sen. Laphonza Butler. Thanks to all who joined this conversation!

GU Politics hosted a conversation last night with two former directors of the DOJ Office of Public Affairs on the politicization of the Justice Department, the role it plays in our democracy, and the precedent recent indictments are setting.

Other student questions involve comments on Unitary Executive Theory, the thinning out of career prosecutors in the DOJ, and the future of the DOJ and future Attorney Generals.

A student just asked the panelist to what extent should Congress take to preserve the rule of law in the DOJ.

Sarah replied: “We don't have three functioning branches of government. Congress has left the field, and that is not recent…It's really the era of executive order instead of legislation.”

Xochitl responded “Yes, Republicans and Democrats commit crimes, just because they’re politicians, does not mean that we should turn a blind eye…but it should be career officials who are prosecuting the cases against politicians.”

Glenn just asked Xochitl Hinojosa: “Why do you think Merrick Garland didn’t go after Donald Trump for political reasons?”

Sarah Isgur said:

“Attorney General Pam Bondi is no longer running the Department of Justice at this point. You have sort of a shadow DOJ.”

She also comments on a “different attitude” where DOJ officials “don’t think about the fact that that they’re handing power to opponents”

Glenn begun the panel by commenting on the current state of affairs in the DOJ and asking Sarah what is different about the current Trump DOJ and the one she worked for in the previous admin.
