Feels like this should be a no brainer and I really want The Word to stick around so maybe there are other people out there who should drop some money their way? Like you, if you’re reading this. They use GiveButter and it’s tax deductible. equalaccesspublicmedia.org

The Word is back this morning with two pieces!

First, how is the media doing over all on accessibility? Not well, apparently.

Visible, yet vulnerable: What journalists can learn from how we covered the attack on trans rights in Trump’s first 100 days.
One big takeaway: Based on analysis of a representative sample of articles, 70% of stories about anti-trans executive orders didn’t quote trans people.

Deafblind activists discuss educational funding cuts - The Word When news broke that the Dept. of Ed was halting grants, deafblind voices were left out of the conversation

New! When funding cuts hit deafblind education centers, news outlets interviewed educators and parents β€”Β but not deafblind people. The word talks to two deafblind activists about what happened, deafblind education, and more.

I've tried four browsers. I've been through it by tab and by screen reader and it's working fine. All three skip links. They work. The code is working. The code is correct. I have no answers for you.

28.10.2025 17:40 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It's working. The code is there. I don't know what to tell you.

28.10.2025 17:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Could you have your tab navigation turned off on your browser?

28.10.2025 16:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

That's what I asked if you meant. It is there.

28.10.2025 16:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm staring at the skip links/code right now. I don't have an answer for you. However, I have reached out to better coders than me because if you're seeing a problem, than there's a problem.

28.10.2025 16:15 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

We know. This one works better and has two close buttons (plus the opt-in button) and does escape out. And it's been screenreader tested by yours truly who uses a screenreader. Think I found the image at issue.

Still not sure about skip article. Do they mean skip content?

28.10.2025 13:50 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

We launched at about 8:10 a.m., so I'm pretty pleased that one link was broken. As for the others, I'm not sure.

28.10.2025 13:27 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Editor here: The broken link is fixed. (Was trying to link back to the old site not the current site.)

I don't see the yellow-on-white text on the slide-in

Don't know what you mean by skip article. Skip content? Skip header?

Which alt-text you are looking at?
