An era comes to an end: after fighting actively as a gladiatrix for 20 years, of which 19 with LVDVS NEMESIS, I had my last fight today and received the rudis as a sign of the retired gladiator. Now I'll focus on the more theoretical stuff and continue my research esp. on female gladiators.

My dog's not interested in sticks though. Only if she wants she chases the ball and brings it back. With the neighbor's dag I could do this for hours.

Ich liebe Gesellschaftsspiele und hab auch in einer römischen Living History Darstellung mich mit diesem Thema beschäftigt. Nach dem Kämpfen muss man sich ja irgendwie beschäftigen 😃

Het is niet altijd een gladiator (2) - Mainzer Beobachter Een onthoofd skelet wordt al snel geïnterpreteerd als een gedode gladiator. Maar we weten vaak simpelweg niet wie het was.

But it could've been a person condemned ad bestias (death by wild beasts). I already wrote a blog about this in Dutch:

It makes me furious to see that @yorkarchaeology.bsky.social is still claiming this to be a gladiator (=person who fought another person thus not animal in a duell for entertainment). It could've been a venator (=person fighting animals for entertainment).

There is no evidence for a gladiator (=person who fought another person in a duell for entertainment). If at all a venator/bestiarius (=person who fought animals for entertainment). But could've been a person condemned ad bestias (execution by wild beasts)
