Jaws at 50: Was the Terrifying Movie Really to Blame for Worldwide Shark Declines? • The Revelator
Sharks have experienced the worst declines in history. Can we trace that decline to their villainous portrayal in this influential movie?
Steven Spielberg’s iconic film Jaws first hit theaters 50 years ago this month.
Since then, sharks have experienced the worst declines in their 450-million-year history. Can we trace that decline to their villainous portrayal in this influential movie?

Adding voter ID requirements severely limits people's ability to vote and is driven entirely on the basis of disenfranchisement advantaging the Republicans.
Here's some info on it and being heard. Must be done by midnight on the 23rd US/Eastern time.

I see there's an automated fingerprint identification levy on the ballot. Seems like an obvious no to me. Is my intuition wrong here?

What distinction are you making between a "self-coup"/autogolpe and coup?
I'm hard pressed to call it anything other than a coup regardless of whether it's internally or externally driven.

Well, that's a rather scathing indictment: www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...
Confirmation bias and all that. It certainly reinforces pretty much every expectation I've had of the man based on what he's done and what I've seen of friends who made the mistake of working for Musk.

And the sad thing is, there are many places in the US where there is no car dependency. They're behind a paywall of stupidly expensive housing though as they're invariably incredibly popular places to live. :-(

Inaccurate and Biased Global Media Coverage Underlies Public Misunderstanding of Shark Conservation Threats and Solutions
Environmental Policy; Nature Conservation
After performing a media content and discourse analysis of how the popular press covers shark conservation and determining that it's a dumpster fire of misinformation, I often wonder what topics where I'm *not* an expert get similarly bad media coverage.

So, while the approach taken at the time seemed reasonable, once we were out of the water and able to think about it clearly (i.e. without the pressure to continue the dive), it became clear that it wasn't the best idea and I really should have aborted the dive.

While we were very close to the surface and we likely would have gotten to safety without issue, other factors may have changed the dive profile and safety margin (e.g. there was kelp in the water, which could have tangled either of us up and slowed our ascent).

3. Yes. If we'd had out of gas emergency, the feathering of the long hose cylinder would have created significant extra task loading for an already stressed diver.

I'll go first:
Yes. I had a 1st stage regulator partial failure on a sidemount dive.
1. Mine, I was the dive leader
2. We were in 3 metres of water, 20 metres off a sandy beach. It seemed reasonable that we would easily be able to get to the shore if anything further went wrong.

Divers: Have you ever continued a dive after a serious equipment malfunction (BCD/Regulator failure, lost one or both fins etc)?
If so:
1. Was the decision yours or the dive leader?
2. What lead you to decide to continue?
3. Did you do a debrief after the dive and discuss the safety ramifications?

It's a weird one. There's apparently a pact that the US will defend Greenland, maybe Trump believes that is justification for taking over. avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century...
If that's hist justification, then many countries should start looking for ways to dump US pacts and bases.
