Why must #HorizonEU keep its independent identity?
It boosts research excellence & capacity, fosters mobility, international and cross-sectoral cooperation and drives breakthrough innovation💡
The new #EUCompetFund should complement, not absorb it.

Due to the current dominance of metric-based approaches to assessing academic staff, false incentives have proliferated. In her #EUAExpertVoices article, Sybille Hinze (#BerlinUAlliance) explains why, and looks for a better approach.

The answer is, actually quite a lot.

🛠️ This is why @eua.eu has proposed a practical toolbox of measures aimed at the entire university community, from the leadership to the student body, that will help guarantee that #AcademicFreedom is a daily, lived reality at European universities.

Threats to academic freedom come in many different guises.

🌍 In Europe, infringements are often subtle and insidious, though this makes them no less harmful to #HigherEd, research & science.

So what can universities themselves do to strengthen academic freedom in an increasingly fractious world?

Regarding the overall #FP10 budget, EUA said the proposed €175bn was encouraging but but falls short of what is really needed. A budget of €200bn would ensure that the programme achieves the greatest possible impact.
