Growing up in Miami in the 80’s we use to see 100’s of fire beetles(aka click beetles). Nowadays I’ll be lucky to see one. I figured pesticides contributed to their decline but didn’t consider light pollution as well.

Hatchlings often mistake city lights for the moon/stars, leading them inland to pools, sidewalks, and drains. Conservationists document these incidents, but communities must enforce lighting rules to protect sea turtles.
