I haven't seen anyone use a webquest since...2010? Is this still a lesson structure folks use?
THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO READ
I AM BEGGING YOU TO READ
THERE IS A REASON THEY DO NOT WANT YOU TO READ!!
DONβT DO THEIR WORK FOR THEM BY REFUSING TO READ
Proud professor moment this week: all three of my students who I convinced to use their capstone projects as a starting point to submit a proposal to a local teacher practice focused literacy conference were accepted!
I'm so excited to see them all shine in March!
Last night my #LiteracyEd students presented their capstone projects and I could not be prouder of the work they did with action research, professional development, and self-reflection.
I definitely teared up on more than one occasion when they were sharing!

Every once in a while all of mine are for rings, then they're for fertility treatments/egg freezing. I just want ads for cute plus sized clothes and cat toys! Maybe speciality cocktail ingredients!
12.12.2024 20:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm pretty sure I got over zealous cleaning out old things when the college I work for stopped paying for a premium subscription
12.12.2024 20:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I also very well may have archived/deleted a bunch when they changed the max with a free account and don't remember π«£
12.12.2024 15:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But the glow up deleted all my old padlets? I don't necessarily need them, but I'm annoyed
12.12.2024 15:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So apparently in the 6 months since I've used Padlet it's had a complete makeover and I can do exactly what I want? Wow.
12.12.2024 15:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0gives kids an opportunity to PLAY that they don't normally get in upper middle and high school. There was so much deep thinking and so much JOY in that unit. I've taught other playwrights and other plays, but it just seems to work best with Shakespeare for reasons i can't articulate.
12.12.2024 14:26 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0When I taught 8th grade, every year they'd dread the R&J unit, and every year they'd tell me it was their favorite. I agree with a lot of the other sentiments here, but teaching Shakespeare--especially using Folger or some similar performance and analysis based curriculum--1/

The problem is, end of semester is hard and we have a lot of adjunct faculty (including me). The two times I've done this, only the dept chair has made it.
I'm looking for a platform where they can share their digital posters and get comments from faculty (like an async poster presentation)
Ok #edusky My literacy specialist grad students are making digital posters to share their research from their capstone projects. I'm working on making their end of term presentations something exciting that makes it really feel like a conclusion to their program. We have a party. They present, etc
12.12.2024 14:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To be very clear, as a teacher I don't want "time-saving AI tools."
I want time.

27.11.2024 15:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Technology is a tool, not a learning outcomes. The graphic has right & wrong answers to the question "what do you want kids to do with technology?"
Telling me your shiny, new, expensive tool is teacher-proof is the only red flag I need to end a conversation immediately. It's an insult. Tools are nothing without teachers who can facilitate thoughtful use that pushes kids to think critically, ask questions & solve big problems. #EduSky

Update: I gave one of the repeat Dogman readers a copy of Nimona on Friday. She came in today and told me she was on page 150 of 272.
This kid has not read more than 10 pages of any book she's picked up since the beginning of the school year.
So now I need more books like Nimona
I was trying to wrap up our #literacy team meeting this morning. One of my team members told me not to rush it because the conversation we were having would be one of the best any of us would have all day. And my heart has been so full ever since. And he was right. I love my team so much.
25.11.2024 17:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I chatted with a student today and they also like the feelings of nostalgia they get from reading Dogman. And part of that nostalgia is for when reading felt fun
22.11.2024 18:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So funny. I just pulled Nimona off the shelf for one of my chronic Dogman readers
22.11.2024 17:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They are both good, and I'm all for kids reading what they like, but we're trying to get our high schoolers to choose something a little more mature. What are things that are moving into upper MG and YA that have a similar vibe?
22.11.2024 17:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We're trying to figure out what they love about it. So far we have:
- scatological humor
- fast paced action
- vignettes
- graphic format
- action/plot rather the character focused
What else?
