I’m struggling with my focus today. So I wrote out everything I’ve done this year, long hand and in a proper notebook.

I decided that the problem may be that I’ve done enough.

My fellow trans actors who’ve been at the game for a minute, we used to field multiple self-tape requests in a week, reading for each other even if we were competing for the same parts. Hardly any of us have work anymore, and if we do it’s mostly low-budget indie stuff. Artful but not sustainable.

And as for acting jobs, according to GLAAD there were only 5 trans roles on TV last year, and all of them are going away in 2026. I go out for assumedly cis roles too. My last TV audition was exactly one year ago.

Putting this on for my next roadtrip!

Everyone should check out the recent US localization of Tokyo Godfathers—a great dub cast, including Shakina as Hana. As well, the new English subs on that same GKids Blu-ray are great (currently the Tubi version is still a fantastic film but some queer translation choices are unfortunately dated)

Didn’t expect this to blow up but I’m SO GLAD people continue to cherish this movie. Voicing Hana was such an honor, but our joy got cut short when the remastered @gkids.com English dub hit theaters in March 2020. It warms my heart that so many people have made Tokyo Godfathers a holiday tradition!

Reminder that the Gkids release of Tokyo Godfathers has an English dub where Hana is played by a trans actress (who also helped with the dub script, too!) and she is FANTASTIC.

Make sure you've got the Gkids release for this, the updated translation treats Hana's character much better.
