That's wild! Have people just stopped using the word "white" in all contexts to avoid this issue then?

Reread my post and realized if you bent over backwards it might seem like I'm calling white people not people, but I meant more like "here is the new phone we are selling, it comes in black, white, and grey"

There is algorithmic censorship around the word "white"?? Like, I guess it's not that I don't believe you, weirder things have happened, but it's literally a color of things that aren't even people, I feel like it's such a common word that censoring it would be so disorganized

So was it ever actually intended/stated to be more inclusive, or was it a Twitter thing to conserve characters and people read inclusivity in there by accident? Bc I feel like it's probably used the same way "yt" is but people who talk about inclusivity have a lot to say and need all the characters

The fact that you went instantly from 4 out of 5 security to loss (in a way that you really couldn't respond at all) is BRUTAL πŸ’€ oof

But the quilt went to the one who stayed on the Rez raising her own children, to use as a blanket as her grandma had. It's different than this as both sisters were genuinely part of the culture but one had bought in to assimilation and saw it as her past while the other kept their culture alive.

This reminds me of a book I read for school with a pair of Native American sisters trying to decide who inherits their grandma's hand-sewn quilt. One, who had moved to the city and hadn't visited in years, wanted to display it on her wall.

It was at Washington University! Though I'm sure it's happened multiple times, and it's probably pretty frustrating for him!

Baltimore is seeing the city’s fewest homicides in 50 years. Here’s why. Multiple people have taken credit for the historic drop that mirrors a national decrease in violent crimes. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott says it’s due to a community-based approach to gun violence.

#Baltimore Mayor #BrandonScott invested in 42 summer youth camps, 29 literacy programs, extended the rec center hours to 11 p.m, planned block parties, opened the pools for safe fun, & opened several schools up for summer classes. Crime is down 62%. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

My family stayed at a room like this (glass shower wall, toilet still thankfully enclosed) and my parents explained it to us kids as "fancy, classy, cool, etc". We all felt like it was an interesting and cool setup, though we made extra sure to switch on the glass frosting before showering.

Yeah, it's a plan in progress but every good plan started that way. I agree that there's a long way to go making healthcare accessible, but it is an important goal. And it would make it hard to break in with a new medicine, but making a new medicine is already hard and people still do it.

Because of the price of eggs, I give you the classic Great Depression-era recipe for Crazy Cake, both in the original chocolate and vanilla versions. No eggs, no milk, all deliciousness.

I like that this is also a vegan recipe, easy to make, and uses ingredients that don't spoil. Great for the Great Depression and also for regular depression πŸ˜›

ICE is currently on 3rd and University going through restaurants.

That said I often try to push back on narratives implying autistic people have an inherently worse life when so much of that *comes* from situations. Plus, just as an autist could be worse off without their job or partner, what if that job or partner would be equally worse off if the autist left?

24.01.2025 03:41 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Both of these responses make sense, and to be clear, I'm not pushing the narrative that autism *isn't* a disability. I think it's a thoughtful angle to look at not only impairment but also how easily impairment could occur if a situation changed.

It's still not easy- she'll have to figure out insurance, doctors and affording glasses, all with no money or parental support. But she knows it's possible! Plus, this is one of the reasons she struggled in school and didn't finish, and maybe if this works out, she can get back on track with that!

I work with troubled youth and one confided that when she sees busy patterns or bright lights, her vision blurs and she gets headaches. I googled and did some research, discovered these are classic astigmatism symptoms. She was so happy when I told her it could be fixed with just a pair of glasses!

Genuine question- if disability is a product of a mismatch between societal expectations and a body's capabilities, then what is it when someone's environment is actually a great match and they are able to have a quality of life equal to or greater than an "abled" person? Isn't that the goal?
