From safety first to Palestine first, Keir Starmer shows some leadership | John Crace The PM is to lead recognition of a Palestinian state – a good day for him, the UK and the starving people of Gaza

Given that this is from a satirical columnist, it hits home harder. And now for Australia to show some leadership too. Come on Penny, Albo.

We got a 10. I wish we had gone for bigger. In summer we fill a 10 by 11am, then on hot days the AC drains it by 11pm.

How about an age limit for anyone running for any office - President, Senate, Supreme Court - all of them. Other countries have mandatory retirement ages.

We have two cars (family of 5). Running costs (similar distance covered):

1. ICE - service $1,300 (needed new battery - ironic huh), petrol $2,200 pa (~$40pw).

2. EV - service $120, electricity $230 less whatever I get from solar panels.

Difference over 10 years over $30k!

Trump actions have, in effect, undermined US watchmakers. There are now millions of people who will now think Swiss watches must be superior because why else would you need to tariff them.

U.S. tourism will lose up to $29 billion as visitors plummet amid Trump policies While tourism is booming across the world, the U.S. is a notable loser this year as millions of visitors are choosing to travel elsewhere.

In 2024, the US was involved in 8.31% of global trade. So that’s 91.69% of global trade that Trump’s tariffs won’t affect.

You do have to wonder what proportion of global trade the US will be involved in in 2025. Tourism is tanking for a start.

One other thing… not only are 3sixteen more expensive in the US but they are also now more expensive to overseas buyers. So Australians, Europeans, Canadians and everyone else will simply buy jeans from elsewhere. Tariffs are, in effect, killing any exports that rely on an imported product.

Trump's trade war probably qualifies as the greatest madness in economic policy in a developed country after WWII:
1. All decisions are made by one single person (Trump).
2. No principles are applied.
3. No economic rationale or theory.
4. All is based on Trump's emotions. /1

Suggesting that free speech about an ongoing genocide is so unimportant that motorists shouldn’t be mildly inconvenienced is, quite frankly, incredible.

Imagine the police "protecting" protests in the U.S.? Imagine a city shutting down the major bridge in a US city for 5 hours, for a protest? Imagine a protest for Palestine of maybe 50,000 people, in the U.S.?
I'd say we need to "catch up" with the Aussies!

Union boss calls for one property limit on negative gearing tax breaks ACTU Secretary Sally McManus says it's time to "bite the bullet" and reform negative gearing and the capital gains tax to make it easier for young people to enter the housing market.

This is not an entirely stupid idea. Of course, a family of five could have five properties negatively geared but it would still stop the insane gouging from people who claim against 10, 20 … or more properties.

Just a reminder that BlueSky works differently to Twitter.
. Repost = Retweet
But
. Likes in Twitter influence who else gets to see the post. BlueSky doesn’t do that - it trusts YOU to repost stuff you think others should see. Essentially, likes in BlueSky are just between you and the author.

I think they realise that they’re in opposition now until after the energy transition is finished so they are planning their careers after politics.

I’m disappointed to see Hastie jumping on the anti-net zero bandwagon though but perhaps I shouldn’t have been.
