Yep. I stopped watching WWE when they stuck with the Saudi deal after Khashoggi was murdered in 2018.
I hoped the doofus son-in-law might, y'know, be a better human than this, but after the past few days, I'm even more done than I was before.

You can play pretty much all of 'em online! Not as tactile, but at least you don't need a bunch of D-cell batteries.

03.08.2025 16:31 β π 28 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0It's funny how 30 years ago we were getting cheap MMPR toys for our parents to buy us, 15 years ago we were getting expensive MMPR collectables, and now we're getting cheap MMPR toys to buy our kids.
...I mean, I don't have kids and never entirely grew up so this is for me. But I see the intent.
I mean, hate is way too strong really. I just bought it hoping I'd love it, then barely played it. But it's not a series I was ever into.
03.08.2025 12:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hey, I enjoyed the GameCube immensely, aside from some of the 1st party games, the lack of online support, and the colorful homophobic slurs I learned from my classmates for enjoying it!
03.08.2025 11:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0When AOL first started blowing up, their servers couldn't handle all the incoming connections, meaning you'd just have to sit on this screen for like 10 minutes waiting to see if you'd get through.
And I did wait. It was starting your modem with a hand crank.
I thought this was a crossover game, and was immensely confused and a little disappointed when I got it and I had to play as Mario, since I saw that series as less important than Donkey Kong (and also Mario's name wasn't even on the box???)
03.08.2025 11:06 β π 34 π 5 π¬ 9 π 0Made me a *gamer*. :V
03.08.2025 10:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yep, just the tactics gameplay! That genre is like nails on a chalkboard for me. Which is weird because I'm fine with other kinds of strategy, like card games or turn-based RPG combat.
Sucks for me, though! DKA is the closest thing we have to a Switch-original DK game and I'd love to love it!
Meanwhile I was reading all the magazines and spending untold hours of my childhood on AOL, so I could get out there and educate my fellow 3rd graders on N64/Saturn/PSX tech specs and sales whether they wanted me to not (they did not).
03.08.2025 10:00 β π 21 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0As a lifelong internet weirdo, it's always odd when people are like, "I was just a kid, me and my friends had no idea what was going on with [insert childhood game/console], we just played it."
03.08.2025 10:00 β π 28 π 0 π¬ 5 π 0A very serious survey.
03.08.2025 09:05 β π 36 π 1 π¬ 5 π 0I'm more tempered about all that than I used to be, though. Nowadays my answer would probably be something like a MOBA, or a tactics game. Not even Donkey Kong could help me endure Mario & Rabbids. I played Heroes of the Storm one time, and it ruined my entire day. :V
03.08.2025 08:26 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0It actually became a useful barometer as AAA games got more open, realistic, and story-driven, and less replayable, challenging, and arcadey: The more "like Oblivion" something was, the less I was likely to gel with it.
03.08.2025 08:26 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0For a long time, it was Oblivion. Nobody EVER shut up about how revolutionary it was. My friend described it as "like the holodeck from Star Trek." The internet exalted its virtues endlessly. Every early 7th gen game seemed to be compared to it.
So I bought it at full price, and I *hated* it.
Hmm. Since you said "Dr. Robotnik," I think I'd say "Julian" first.
But if you'd called him "Dr. Eggman," then Julian wouldn't have ever occurred to me, even though Eggman *is* still Robotnik.
Strange, isn't it?
Yep! It's the closest edge case there is in my book and I could probably talk myself into it if I wanted to. Yasuhara even did level design for it!
Still. Sonic Adventure always felt like the first REAL Sonic game we'd had since 1994. Maybe it's just vibes.
For Sonic, the most important factors for me are, in order of relative importance:
-Starring Sonic the Hedgehog
-A platformer
-Released on flagship hardware
-Developed (or with design input) by some form of Sonic Team (with extra consideration for Ohshima, Naka, and Yasuhara)
Nah, I wouldn't count them if they were standalone.
A lot of people seem to get hung up on "mainline" and "canon" meaning the same thing, but that's not a factor at all in my book. Like... Rogue One is definitely canon, but that doesn't mean it's a mainline Star Wars film, right?
I still enjoyed it well enough, but it did feel like a big step back from GSC. But more than anything, looking back, Pokemon has always been a very social experience for me. Most of my favorites were the ones that I got to play alongside my friends. And nobody else I knew even had a GBA in 2003.
02.08.2025 12:11 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0There was no way to transfer our beloved favorites from the previous games! The day/night system from GSC was gone! We were back down to one region after GSC gave us two for one! The artstyle was too simple, not doing nearly as much with the hardware as other GBA games!
Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
Gen III came out when I was a teenager. Lots of people don't like the first Pokemon game that came out when they were teenagers. xD
02.08.2025 12:11 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0> Considering your love for titles like DKC1 and DKCR, I feel like your love for "short, focused, infinitely replayable" games stems from, what else, Sonic 2
Yep, I said it a long, long time ago!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDPi_Mc51Ws
Yeah, Secret Rings, Black Knight, and 3D Blast are all edge cases for me. I don't consider them mainline personally, but they're not very far off.
Regardless, it's not a big deal. The question was about what *I* considered mainline, but everyone has their own interpretation!
Who said the name was all that mattered? :V
If there are two different games called "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," and one was developed by Sonic Team and released for Sega's flagship hardware, while the other wasn't, which one is the "main" version?
But Sonic 4 isn't like that.
