To me, the most important are:
Read often, read broadly (incl. older papers and outside your field), and learn to read some papers in detail and others more superficially (and quickly)

Den ersten Petaflop in Europa hat 2009 "Jugene" erreicht, Forschungszentrum Jülich. Damals waren noch 73000 Powerpcs mit insgesamt ~300.000 Cores und ich schätze ein paar 100m Eur dafür notwendig.

Last week, Martin Breugst (of @breugstlab.bsky.social) and I ran a public explainer session to discuss this year's Nobel Prizes (@nobelprize.bsky.social) in Physics and Chemistry.
Both awards were for work related to machine learning - clearly up and coming also in the sciences!
Chemnitz as the gateway to the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) features a beautiful Christmas Market showcasing local traditions and craftsmanship such as the giant Christmas pyramids.
A great environment for a group outing with good spirits fueled by mulled wine!
