I remember maybe 2-3 years ago there was a big social media tempest over nurses insisting they be called “scientists.” Not research coordinators or anything, just regular providers. I don’t get the impulse. We do different things! Some do both, but not that many.

On what do you base that judgment? I've talked with NIH employees. I've seen what the admin is trying to do, myself and from others. I know they are fascists, and fascists have a long and documented history of failure and destruction. Why so confident?

I've been thinking a lot about the question of replication rates. Many people claim that ~50% replication rates represent a "crisis" but I've never seen that judgment justified (or even explained). What should the rate be? Why should be expect that rate? Why SHOULDN'T it be 50%?

Science won’t exist if the fascists win. So perhaps the HHMI should defend their own purpose and future by helping us defeat the fascists.

Just breathtaking cowardice. Which is basically what I’ve come to expect from most institutions. Although this is particularly galling coming from a group of people that styled themselves leaders in the fight to improve science.

She was 9 weeks pregnant. She died. The state of Georgia is making the doctors keep her alive to incubate the baby. She’s been dead for three months. This is REAL. this isn’t about what should or should not be done. This is about having a VOICE. This is about having a CHOICE.

The PI said that year 5 was blocked in Feb, but current year went down all across the country on 5/2. I haven’t been paying close attention to this mechanism apologies for any errors.

And our IMSD T32 goes down. Guess we don’t want students from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds getting into science. Fuck these people. There is no hell hot enough for them.
