Umm I think you're confusing patents for trade secrets. In order to patent something you have to disclose it. I've checked and its reported that the Bone-02 process has secured patent applications within China for international bodies dunapress.org/breaking-bar...

But even then there are times when I have to scramble phoning every pharmacy in the region and neighbouring regions to look for the last box. It can be frustrating and alarming. Generic alternatives would make a world of difference. But alas I must wait until 2041 (!) For extra peace of mind.

This modification means I only have to take one a day (well done to the clever lab technicians) however it was patented in 2021. So there are no generic alternatives available. So, when there are disruptions in supply I'm out of luck. As a precaution I order 10 days in advance.

So for medical breakthroughs the company has exclusive right to exploit it for 20 years. This can cause very serious issues over supply and demand around the globe. For example, every day I have to take a capsule in order to function as a human being. That capsule has a unique release system.

Patents in the PRC are governed by a law passed in 1984. Inventions and processes including mechanical and chemical can be patented for 20 years. This means a patent gives the the owner exclusively ownership of that invention or process for the length of the term. Very similar to copyright.

Seen news that a new techniqye for repairing bones is being pioneered in the People's Republic of China. I hope it pans out, it should be an important step forward in health care. It also gives me an opportunity to discuss patents, another form of IP control.

Japan has this odd situation where two laws on copyright overlap, the current law says that motion pictures are protected from 70 years after release, while an older pre 1970s law says films are copyrighted for 38 years after the death of the director. Which makes it tricky to figure out status.
