Good BBC article on this topic. We need to change the narrative around new development. This is about people’s lives and opportunities.

This will be an interesting twist of the proposed reorganisation that Cllr’s will be a bit further removed from a local area.

I think people are seeing from the wrong perspective. Councillors are being empowered to set the direction of travel in the local plan and key policies. Then probably consider and determine the outline planning applications for major schemes, but then let officers consider the detail.

Technically yes, but then the authority would be justified in refusing for the scheme not taking a holistic view

Not sure it is getting round the rules - seems to be complying with them..they just don’t apply!

I have been pondering about Planning Committees this morning.

The answer is yes.

Councillors have a key role in planning; to lead and decide on the future plans for their area. This needs to be focused at the strategic plan and local plan level, and reduced at the planning application stage.
