Decarbonisation is not deindustrialisation - it's the UK's best chance for economic renewal and a just transition There is a substantive amount of debate about the nature and shape of the future UK economy in the context of achieving Net Zero. This has, rightly so, been focused on the regions, places and sectors ...

An alternative and much more positive viewpoint as opposed to the rubbish put out by the leader of the UK Conservatives today. This is pure positioning for Offshore Europe tomorrow. I look forward.. kinda...to presenting this on the Fri panel.

These processes need to be open, accountable, and accessible to all the who have joined across the UK. Out of this will come policy positions based off dialogue and consensus. I think this is the key challenge on the horizon. Many voices, ideas & energy. We won't all agree. But we will talk and act.

The formation of the new @yourpartyuk.bsky.social been described as 'chaotic'. Don't confuse this with energy and vibrancy.. 600k have joined. Its a movement that will shake things up. Its exciting to do politics this way. But we do need proper process and formal means of engagement to follow.

Thats a shame and shows how the Greens can ne quite rigid in their thinking. I think there is scope for collab here and some different views on green policy.

This is far from definitive, and the dialogue needs to happen, but I would argue that the new left progressive party needs to focus on 3 issues.
1. Palestine.
2. Poverty.
3. Planet.
There is a 4th which is more process oriented. Politics. The biggest challenge and opp is uniting the left.

Net migration to the UK - Migration Observatory An overview of net migration in the UK – defined as the difference between immigration and emigration of people moving for at least a year.

Ahh.. thankfully some factual and reasoned information if you care to look. High levels of 2024 immigration driven by work / skilled visas and international students. All who massively contribute economically and socially to the UK.

It's a fair point but the industry has run safely in the UK since the 1950s. Rural communities have hugely benefited. I'm far more concerned about the impacts on climate from fossil fuels.

Aberdeen researchers drive Β£5.7million cross-UK 'whole system' approach to Just Transition An Aberdeen-led research programme that puts people and communities at the centre of the move to Net Zero is one of two national projects benefitting from a share of nearly Β£10m investment by UKRI.

Very excited to be launching our project JUST-Systems tomorrow. In final prep & thinking about how to bring together people and ideas to develop a whole systems approach to a people centred transition. Fundamentally its connecting a better quality of life to Net Zero.

Why Highlands needs SNP to stop blocking nuclear power projects Nuclear-generated electricity is a more climate-friendly route to energy security than fossil fuels

I've come a way on nuclear energy. From student protests in the 90s in Aus to perhaps more mature environmental views. We will soon launch new research on nuclear and a just transition in Scotland. Short answer, I believe it has a role to play in decarb energy mix.

BP shuns renewables in return to oil and gas The energy giant has announced its strategy after rivals also rowed back on green energy plans.

The fossil fuel industry can't be trusted with a just energy transition. There has been goodwill, dialogue & difficult conversations (which will continue) but at the end of the day, these statements show the truth - a lack of commitment to a genuine transition.

A $10,000 fine issued to Santos for a large oil spill off the coast of WA is little more than a slap on the wrist for the multi-billion-dollar gas company.

But it’s a slap in the face for anyone concerned with protecting Australia’s natural environment #auspol
