That's because they're bringing it back, rebranded for a new century.

I ended up contacting the real Shannon in the Meetup group and she replied I was the second person to contact her about the same thing, that it was definitely a scam.

Be careful out there!

It did sound phishy from the beginning, and every subsequent email in reply to me had that overly-thorough, bullet-listed, ingratiating tone as I've seen when chatting with AIs. It did get around to asking for me to pay a "small fee" to be featured, to "cover costs of running the group". (more)

I got my first personalized AI-powered email scam today, asking to feature one of my books in a Meetup book club. It was from "Shannon Organizer", but included photos from the group in the signature and there actually was a Shannon with the same avatar listed as one of the group's admins. (more)

I've never tried to get a booth, but I hear it's difficult since those who've had one and are in good standing get in line first for the next year. Encourages repeat business.

If you're free sometime Thursday afternoon/evening between 1pm and 7pm, I'd love to meet you! Np if it's too chaotic!

Sure! Coordinating schedules is the hard part!

But once you do get an idea of what you want out of Gen Con, you can do more focused planning next year (starting in February, or even sooner if you intend to be a vendor, presenter or run a game).

I think it might be best to just attend: play games, do demos, meet up with folks, check out all the Seminar events that interest you, see Cardhalla and the balloon sculptures, eat at the food trucks... just experience Gen Con to get an idea of where you want to fit in. You can't do it all!

Well, that is a difficult question. I only attend as, well, an attendee, though I know some (fiction) authors who pay for booths (they are NOT cheap!) and sell their books in the dealer hall--it is vast, it is chaotic, and it is confusing, but so many wonders can be found in there.

I've been playing TTRPGs for decades as well, and I'm an indie author, so I can appreciate the intersection (and the high production values for your show) for sure!
